I have been advised that a DLR version of the "Vintage Bus Parade" will take place tomorrow and Wednesday. Routes D8, 474, 115, D7, 277, 147 and 473 will all see supplementary workings over the whole or part route BUT JUST AM AND PM PEAKS. Nothing off peak. Buses are coming from Ensign, Southern Transit, Abbey Travel, London Bus Company, Panther Travel, Newport Buses, Travelmaster. In short not unlike what we've seen before but there are some nice oldies featuring including T986 and M192 from Ensign [1] plus RMs from LBC. I expect Abbey Travel may shove out old NVs as they use these on RRS work. There is also an intensive shuttle between Excel and Canning Town featuring all sorts of Ensign vehicles including M1. [1] Did vjaska just faint from over excitement?

I am pretty surprised the 262 isn't getting any, it links a lot of the Beckton Branch to Stratford.

Metrobus 192 is a brilliant vehicle and T986 has some brisk acceleration so enjoy people.

I hate to burst your bubble but the RFs on the 108 are doing shorts from Stratford to North Greenwich. My dad is driving one of the RMs on the 277 and says the RFs are coming from London Bus Company.

Not sure why my bubble would be burst. Even on that shorter run they're still going through the tunnel!

The DLR extras on the 115 ,147 and 473 extras seemed very poorly loaded. I see 2 -3 normal service buses full to the brim followed by empty extras. I guess passengers assume if its not red its not a normal bus service I am a big fan of bus blinds but one thing strikes show is just how quick and easy LED blinds can be programmed and must admit on a dark dull morning these displays stood out.

I see DLR managed to get a shuttle service running Canning Town - Prince Regent I wonder if this meant the shuttle buses got scaled back on the Excel - Canning Town service.

The strike is not helping the situation at Canada Water which on a normal day suffer from serious overcrowding. To be honest, it is a miracle there has not been a serious incident at Canada Water during the peaks the way everyone packs on to the escalators, it's the only station where it's an accepted common rule to stand on both sides of the escalator. Also, Canada Water has to be the worst future-proofed station of the 21st century, short platforms, one up one down from the southbound LO to Jubilee (with a great big column in the middle). It is is ridiculous. I hope Crossrail has taken note of how popular train routes can get overwhelmed in a matter of years, don't under estimate the underdog. Rant over.

Crossrail has 11 car platforms even though initial trains are only 9 cars. I believe the signalling can handle about 32 trains per hour but initial service is only 12 per hour, increases to 24 per hour by Dec 2019 so capacity could easily be increased by 50% from currently planned level.

It is is ridiculous. I hope Crossrail has taken note of how popular train routes can get overwhelmed in a matter of years, don't under estimate the underdog. Rant over. I've seen some photos on Twitter this morning of Canary Wharf Jub (last night), Canada Water and London Bridge and it looks like hell. Just goes to show that the "toy town railway", the DLR, plays a very significant role in getting people around and taking up the slack that other routes can't cope with. As for Canada Water well the JLE was built at a time when there was simply no expectation that the then ELL could ever generate the volumes of patronage that it now does as part of the Overground. I was involved in the design review process for all JLE stations (for ticketing and gates) and the scale of the places was pretty amazing at the time. Clearly a lot was got right but you simply can't provide capacity for demand that no forecast says will turn up. The JLE stations are built with a long term view of demand for the Jubilee Line and even Canary Wharf, a vast station by anyone's standards, looks crowded during the peaks even 16 years on from opening. If someone had come along saying London's population will rise by x million, Canary Wharf will be 4 times bigger than expected, multi thousand people will use the ELL in the peak, tube demand would rise inexorably month after month they'd have laughed out of the project approval meeting and the DfT would never have believed it. Hindsight is a great thing.

I think the capped future tph is 30 trains per hour through the central core on CR1. Despite all you say Sir Peter Hendy is renowned for saying that Crossrail will be "full" not long after opening. I suspect TfL may well activate the option for extra carriages on CR1 trains before Crossrail is fully open by Dec 2019 but perhaps not for extra trains to allow 30 tph operation.
