The first GatEx 387/2 to go on loan to Great Northern to temporarily replace the Class 365’s, 387201 has now transferred to Hornsey Depot in preparation for the May timetable change. I believe six GatEx units are due to be transferring in total, so should be 387201-387206 They came last week, 201 has had it’s PIS upgraded and lost it’s GATEX VINYLS. 203 is at Hornsey too. I did wonder if there was a second unit there as my colleague told me two may have already gone over. 201 was the only one visible in the sidings when I went past Hornsey this afternoon. Ironically these two GatEx 387's started life out with Thameslink running with the 387/1's back in 2016, so seeing these working together again will certainly feel like a throwback - albeit they're now on the ECML. I wouldn't be surprised if the long term replacements for the 365's will be the Class 379's. Also, because there are 30 379's and 29 387/1's, perhaps the 379's could replace the 387's too and in turn the 387/1's could then head to Southern to help replace the Class 313's.

If that's the case I can see the Gatwick Express not returning to be honest Vinyls can be re-applied & PIS software can be modified - Obviously with aviation travel non-existent, their isn't much of a need for Gatwick Express to be running at present, when other services are available. There is a schedule for when GATEX services will resume, just not at present. They came last week, 201 has had it’s PIS upgraded and lost it’s GATEX VINYLS. 203 is at Hornsey too. I did wonder if there was a second unit there as my colleague told me two may have already gone over. 201 was the only one visible in the sidings when I went past Hornsey this afternoon. Officially but unofficially, we've heard 379's are a likely long-term 365 replacement but the railway changes daily, Some things on the GN are due to change starting from May 22', but cannot be mentioned in the public domain just yet. Personally, I wish the soon to be displaced 350's could be retrofitted with DOO Cameras and we get them and send the 387's down south. On a side note, Ashford drivers have commenced route learning up to Welwyn.

Perhaps they should be retained for now and used for Kings Cross-Peterborough extras, this would allow LNER to operate a reduced service north of Peterborough only until the class 800 problems are resolved.

The Northern City Branch (Moorgate) is to be closed over several weekends for a major signalling upgrade. When completed the line will be controlled by the European Train Control System (ETCS) in which lineside signalling equipment is removed completely, with all information transmitted to a screen within the driver's cab. The work is to install sensors so that the system is able to locate where trains are.
ECTS is already in use on the central core of Thameslink, so GTR are familiar with the system and the trains recently introduced on the Northern City Line routes already have the in-cab equipment installed. ETCS will be extended up the East Coast Main Line in due course. Installation will be completed next year, and there will then be a period of driver training and gaining of experience before the old system is switched off. ECTS is also being used over part of the Elizabeth Line. The system allows trains to run closer together and allows controllers to respond more quickly to problems on the network.
The line will be closed over the following weekends, with trains rerouted to and from King's Cross.
- Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th June - Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July - Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August - Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th and Monday 30th August - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September.

Sutton Council has submitted a £32 million bid to the Government's "Levelling-up Fund", to double the current single-track between Sutton and Belmont on the Epsom Downs branch. This would enable the service to be increased from the current 2 trains per hour to 4-6. This would benefit the new London Cancer Hub which is a major expansion of the Royal Marsden Hospital and which is a short walk from Belmont station.
