Southern will be withdrawing its class 455 suburban units by start of May 2022 timetable These were introduced in early 1980s so roughly 40 years old. No replacement stock arriving, just seems to be general service reductions and shortening of some other services frees up enough stock to cover the services. Rumoured (but not yet confirmed) that the loaned out 377s (might be 375s) to South Eastern will be returned to Southern during the Autumn so that the 3 car units can replace the older 313s on Coastway services by December. So 313s will also have gone by end of 2022 I’ve seen the same rumour about the 377’s replacing the 313’s, nice to know I’ve some time to ride the 313’s in case they go

Nope, that's been scrapped completely now. Southeastern's new Maidstone East to Blackfriars service was supposed to replace it south of the river but I'm not sure if it's still in the plan for May.

So will the Cambridge service still be going to King's Cross then for the unseeable future or do you think it'll get attached to another route down south?

They've done well though. I know the class 455's at SWR are having a similar feat of getting replaced by the Aventra's. And to add to the original point it was the 377's they loaned out they still got some Southern branding on them.

Services already operate between Cambridge and Brighton, these are semi-fasts. I can't see the Kings Lynn-Cambridge-Kings Cross fast services being diverted onto Thameslink.

Has any reason been given as to why this idea has been dropped? Might take some custom away from the HS1 service to Ashford I suppose? The Southeastern Victoria to Ashford via Maidstone East is still hourly Monday to Friday off peak.

The plan for the time being is to keep it running between Cambridge and King's Cross. It was meant to be extended through the core in 2020 but that was shelved and there's currently no plans (as far as I'm aware) for the 2C's to go through the core. Perhaps when the Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme (CARS) is approved and is complete, it could be extended to Caterham or Tattenham Corner but that's still a decade off yet so a lot could change during that time.

No plans for those to go through the core either, those are remaining as GN services. There are simply not enough 700's to convert the Kings Lynn route, plus until Windmill Bridge Junction is remodelled as part of CARS, there are capacity constraints preventing any more services being added south of the river towards Croydon and Brighton. It's why Thameslink never saw services to Caterham & Tattenham Corner as was promised in the pre-May 2018 specification and those services were diverted to Rainham instead.
