Fed-up of seeing buses with the blindbox lights not turned on at night time it is unacceptable. Common with the Enviro 200/400 and Plaxton President/Pointer2
So to start it off a few over the past few days DN33643 route 26 (9/11/15) at 05:57 no blindbox lights on

Generally blind box lights either come on with the headlights or have independent switches, dependent on the bus. It's frequently a case where drivers forget to switch on those with independent switches.

Annoyingly all of those awful 08 reg Es on the 36 always have their blind box lights off which makes it difficult to see what's coming at night, unless they're ridiculously dim.

Or the bulbs have gone, drivers don't report it on the VDC, so fitters don't know to replace it. Or its reported and engineering won't replace the bulbs because it's a pig of a job.

I find this annoying - round my neck of the woods the Q E400s on the 185 are the worst offenders for this, followed by Abellio's E200s on the 484. Some Enviros I have driven have a blind light button on the dash. Others more sensibly are either always on, or on at least when the headlights are on.

I found all the post 61 plate enviro's the blind lights come on with sidelights or headlights.
Pre 11 plates the lights only come on with sidelights or headlights if the driver presses the switch on the dash for them.
Ta's and scania use the saloon light switches.
But Stagecoach did modify some earlier e200 so the lights come on as post 61 plates do.

Quite a few of the Darts and older buses have this problem - LED blinds would put paid to that, but TfL prefer the 1950s

It's frequently a case where drivers forget to switch on those with independent switches. That is the case with most buses bar the ones I mentioned above. First did get their E200's modified to have the blindbox light on if the engine was on and saloon lights on IIRC.

The culprits in Brixton tend to be E's & PVL's, mainly from Q & AL but only a small number. SW & PM tend to have their blind lights switched on as do Arriva & QB buses on the 3. The odd WL Enviro 400 can have switched off blind lights as well.

We could use the pounds to get rid of those stupid cycle highways that have destroyed our streets

Peckham's PVLs do have their blind lights on, that doesn't mean you can see anything though. Mandela Way's VWLs with the square blind box never have them lit up. Interesting to find out that it's a pig of a job to replace the bulbs. Is it because all of the blinds have to come out? I think the reason why we're using 1950s technology still is because LED displays just don't look very nice. They're not classy enough for the capital. They're also not perfectly reliable. A lot more can go wrong, especially with extreme highs and lows in weather affecting the solder joints and making some of the LEDs not work, which ultimately distorts the message the screen has on it. Even though I work in IT I have this obnoxious opinion that not everything needs to be a computer. In case the photo's too blurry, that is some Canadian LED Banditry.

Not sure what bus has to have the blinds come out to replace bulbs. Most of them I know don't.
