Here it is, at last! TfL has launched a consultation today on the revision of routes 424 & 485. 424 & 485 consultation pageAttachment Deleted -source TfL consultation pageRoute 424 would no longer serve Bagleys Lane, Pearscroft Road, Broughton Road, Stephendale Road and Byam Street. The frequency of route 424 would increase, with buses every 20 minutes (instead of about every 30 minutes) during the day Monday to Saturday. Route 485 would no longer serve Putney Bridge Road and Wandsworth Town Centre. There is a drop in session on Thursday 14 January 2016, 18.00-21.00, at The Sales Gallery, Milliners House, Eastfields Avenue, London, SW18 1LP. Should be interesting I think the most annoying thing about these proposals is that TfL is giving a service to one community and snatching a service from another. Consultation closes Sunday 31 January 2016.

Am I remembering this incorrectly, or were there comments on here about how popular the 265 was when it was diverted to Wandsworth rather than Putney? The proposed change to the 485 would seem to fly in the face of that.

Only looked at this quickly but why not simply divert the 485 via Wandsworth Riverside and, if necessary, run it back north of the river to Imperial Wharf station giving a link to Wandsworth Town station and the Overground at Imperial Wharf? That would allow the 424 to remain unchanged.
Noteworthy that there's no plan to add a Sunday service, even just in shopping hours, to either route despite these being built up areas with plenty of retail and leisure activity. I assume some of the back roads are unpassable due to parked cars on Sundays.

Just saw this. "And whom exactly is paying for this extra trip I have to make?" Said in the voice of many 485 passengers. Out of the 8 bus consultations open right now, 5 of proposals will result in passengers making an additional or multi journeys that they would not have to make currently, looking at these proposals there is very little benefit for existing passengers. I don't see why the 485 cannot just be rerouted into Wandsworth Riverside Quarter. An extra 3 or 5 cannot severely effect the 485. Also are we sure we want more buses serving places named Quarter? look the position the 235 is in now

Have to say, it's another consultation that I really do not agree with. There will be no link across Putney from Wandsworth to Putney Common as well as residents just off Putney Hill & Putney Heath having no link to Putney Bridge Station. Who does this really benefit and does anyone really want to go to Wandsworth, Quayside as the nearest bus stops on Putney Bridge Road aren't particularly used a hell of a lot.

Also are we sure we want more buses serving places named Quarter? look the position the 235 is in now Also worth noting that access to Wandsworth Riverside may not be possible until 2018 according to the consultation. So why on earth muck around now? There is also the pending Wandsworth gyratory works that will screw buses in Wandsworth for years. Why change anything coincident with those works? Wait until Riverside is accessible to buses and the traffic layout is stable and then decide how to serve the area. Running a later evening service can readily be done if people want it. I'm also doubtful, like you, about whether a hugely expensive private development really needs a bus service. The area is within walking distance of the station and the town centre and I'd amazed if there was considerable demand for a bus route given how many run from the end of the road! There are also many other bits of London with far higher underlying demand which are miles from bus routes never mind more than 5 minutes. What makes Wandsworth Riverside so deserving when there are long standing failings elsewhere? I'm beginning to wonder what's going on with TfL's service planners. As you say so many proposals are breaking existing links (previously poo-pooed as a policy) with consequent journey time and cost impacts for people. Even when extensions are planned they seem perverse and unnecessary. It's also quite telling that the rumoured fiddling with a link to Roehampton and then Barnes has not materialised either.

I would of thought that if you can afford to live in the Riverside Quarter area then you are unlikely to use a bus that only runs every 20mins. But if you must tamper with things why not just divert the 485 in and out of the Riverside Quarter Pier area in both directions and leave everything else alone

A TfL-like idea which would probably be better but still a cut off link Option 1: Reroute 424 at Putney Bridge along Putney Bridge Road, the quarter, then the shopping centre 485 as proposed in consultation. Option 2: Instead of 424 withdrawn from Sand's End, keep that link, but extend to Wandsworth via as proposed, then at Putney Station via the existing route to Putney Heath Reroute 485 at Putney Station via existing 424 route until Hurlingham, then one way loop via Wandsworth Bridge Road and back on New King's Road. But really they shouldn't have touched 424 if it was all because of the quarter, is rerouting an infrequent route to somewhere not far off, considered a pain?

Or Option 3: Leave both routes alone, extend the 485 to Wandsworth, Southside for the shopping centre which is currently being extended, increase the frequency to every 20 minutes and add a trial Sunday service to see what demand is like. I seriously don't understand why the 485 terminates on Ram Street when there is nothing there - there is plenty of stand space at Southside for the 485 and even then, there still would be room available.

The MP for Fulham has been busy - petitions and seeing the Mayor. www.greghands.com/campaigns/save-424-busNote the remark from Bozza that "TfL has not taken any decisions". Given Mr Hands is Chief Secretary to the Treasury perhaps the £700m grant cut to TfL is his "revenge" A joke btw - before someone has a sense of humour failure.

TfL have added a map showing the new terminal loop working for the revised 424 at Wandsworth. Looking on Streetview shows a load of flats that look as if they've been transported from the Olympic Village. consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/424-485/user_uploads/osiers_road_map.pdfHas anyone on the Forum used the 424 round the Sands End / Hurlingham area? I'm interested to know if the buses got through smoothly and how busy it was. Doing the "Streetview" run it seems to serve a mixed area of terraced but also local authority housing. I am surprised that TfL would really want to take buses out of this area and force people to use Wandsworth Bridge Road routes unless there have been a lot of complaints about buses not getting past parked cars. All the "posher" looking streets have very extensive parking bays along the streets for which I assume Wandsworth Council rake in lots of money for resident parking permits. I wonder just what is going on here. The other odd thing is the relatively poor stop spacing through Sands End and Chelsea Harbour - fairly long gaps between stops which can't do much to make the service attractive. I have a sneaking suspicion that if TfL added a few more stops and increased the 424's frequency that they'd tap quite a bit of latent demand. The same argument applies to Munster Road - a huge long road in a busy built up area that has a tiny bus every 30 mins M-S with no evening service. Surely that's a bit mad?

I've done the route once end to end on a Saturday afternoon - it was quiet from Fulham, Craven Cottage to Putney where the bus became rammed until Putney Heath. Until Putney, I believe there was just me and three others onboard IIRC with either 2-3 passengers boarding in the Hurlingham area. I can't recall any issues with buses getting through those two areas.

From what I've seen of the 424 around the Walham Green/Hurlingham area it is used quite a lot with a normal loading around peaks of full seats and a couple standing passengers. Based on my observations I don't entirely agree with the whole plan for the 424 and 485 however I haven't used the route enough to know for sure.
