Northern rail trains are pretty awful - I use them when traveling to Blackpool from Preston. I wonder if this will have any effect of the District Line D stock conversions moving north.

I don't think the Vivarail trains will go to Northern. This is because the Government banned them from bids. The suggestion is that they are more likely to go to the South West or elsewhere to replace Pacers or add capacity. We should find out who will be supplying the new trains for Northern once the "stand still" period for the Franchise contract has expired - about 9 days time. In a radio interview the Managing Editor of Railway Gazette said he thought Hitachi might win some of the work - assuming they had capacity at their Newton Aycliffe plant to build them.

First Group that run Transpennine have ordered new trains
£120m for 12 five car 125mph CAF Civity intercity EMUs financed by Eversholt £110m for 13 sets of 5 loco hauled coaches financed by Beacon Rail
Appears former are for Manchester - Scotland, the coaches will work with class 68 locos initially on Liverpool-Newcastle until the 19 electric Hitachi AT300s are delivered when they move to Scarborough services
All trains will have Wi-Fi and media servers streaming TV and films

Half the fun is the view out of the window. It is going to be very interesting to see how well these revamped services do, especially the loco hauled ones. I suspect 5 car trains will soon prove to be inadequate.

Looks good! Presumably the South Western 444's would get a similar refurb.

Interesting. Daft name being used for three different fleets but what do we expect these days? Anyway a few questions that I suspect you'll know the answer to - what happens to the existing Siemens trains that TPE have? Are they leaving the fleet? If they are being cascaded do we know where to?

If they are being cascaded do we know where to? Only 22 of the 51 Class 185s are expected to be sent back to Eversholt Rail, the rest are being kept, not sure of what their future plans are after that. As for the 350/4s, some may already know that they’re all moving to West Midlands Trains.
