I certainly remember the 12 garage runs to Elmers End. And the 12A, an odd one was the 194B (now the 198) which had garage runs from Shrublands via 194 route before it was reallocated to TH.

The 6 and 73 were the last examples of it aswell as the 23.

Depends...
For routes with a garage on line of route , extra trips can be added , I.e route 281 buses running in service from Hounslow or Tolworth back to Fulwell.
Of course back in the day, a garage run may be preceded by a scheduled short turn.
A typical 281 example would be Hounslow - Kingston - Fulwell for example.
If garage off line of route, then you have to ask where the garage is to determine whether any use in making it a public service.
But it would add some querk to the bus system if we could travel on, for example, a 65 heading to RICHMOND BRIDGE & Fulwell

I'd certainly agree about dead runs as per your 281 suggestion if the bus is using the normal line of route. There are numerous examples but the 407 between Caterham and BC could run in service between Caterham and Purley as they are going that way anyway

One of the longest garage journeys is the Sullivans route to Thorpe Park. Runs from south Mimms to staines/Thorpe Park and starts there.

The R70, being a one directional circular has journeys that terminate at Fulwell Station, before running dead to the other side*
Prior to the introduction of the 24 hour service on the 111, the last three or four buses would terminate at Hounslow Bus Station.
The old N65 also used to do one journey on a Saturday (I think) via the 111 to Hounslow.
*Might be sent straight into the current FW end if RATP take over, who knows?

Route 279 still has Garage journeys in a sense buses run in service from Ponders End Garage to Waltham Cross and Vice versa As does the 123 in the sense that some buses enter service at Tottenham and run to Ilford in service. Years ago these all ran oos. Clearly there are oos journeys to / from each end at the start or end of the peaks as the service builds up / runs down. The old practice of the last three buses from Ilford terminating at Tottenham Hale (for the garage) has recently been changed and the buses run through to Wood Green now. I assume this is in preparation for the eventual weekend 24 service.

There are the 2 late night journeys on the 154 that go as far as Sutton and back to A (Monday-Thursday), pretty sure there were more of those in the past that only ran to Sutton Garage from Croydon.

Only in West Hampstead. The C11 runs via Mill Lane so what's the issue?

I think they've got a valid argument to be fair and at least somebody will be happy if the Finchley Road scheme goes ahead! Otherwise there would be a case for running these in service which might appease them, it would at least give a direct link to Central London and a round the corner link to Edgware Road

Don't tell tfl this. Perfect solution; extended the route to Golders Green then award to Sovereign out of Edgware garage. Problem solved about Mill Lane

If they don't like it, move out - after all, they've got the cash to do so. Posh people and the wealthy shouldn't be allowed to dictate the workings of a bus network. Furthermore, having gone down Mill Lane on the C11 in the past and having just looked along the entire road on Streetview, the residents are exaggerating a bit - a lot of the road is as wide as Beulah Hill and I've seen deckers negotiate much narrower roads without issues.

Who wants empty buses up and down their road all day? The C11 is at least performing a useful function.
