Trying to use public transport post operation is not a fun experience - I've had to endure it twice and having to limp, hobble and generally be very cautious is no fun and I was in a reasonable state of fitness then. One complainant is clearly not going to change TfL's mind nor is an article in a local newspaper but it does just go to show that simple things like double runs into hospitals do have a value to people even if it may not cross the mind of the bus service planning department.

Indeed - funnily enough, I remember proposing on here a while ago to double run some R routes via Orpington Hospital but sadly, it seems unworkable.

The R11 did provide a very useful link between Sidcup to Orpington Hospital now that Kings College Hospital run the Hospital and moved some of their out patient clincs there. If the proposals go a head R3 will run to the Hospital which you can catch from Orpington. However, in the case of the elderly lady it is a pity the Hospital could not have arranged out patient transport for her to attend her appointments.

I may have mentioned it already but having a direct link between Orpington Station and Orpington Hospital is going to be very popular, especially since one won't be taken via the High Street first. We on the 5s and 10s, and presumably the 358 drivers as well, are constantly asked for the hospital when picking up at the station

Like you've said- This link between the Orpington Hospital and Orpington station will be very important especially with many of South East London's orthopaedic/ geriatric services moving to the hospital.

To add to this now, the consultation is not out yet but TfL propose to replace the Hail and Ride section on the R2 in Biggin Hill Valley to Bus Stops. This will end the weird arrangement where towards Melody Road along Kings Road its Bus Stops however towards Orpington and Petts Woods its Hail and Ride.

Summer?! Wish they would hurry up and make an announcement; it's getting tiresome explaining to the regulars on the R7 that the increased service hasn't been officially decided upon yet. They are very much looking forward to a 30 minute frequency and a Sunday service!

Summer?! Wish they would hurry up and make an announcement; it's getting tiresome explaining to the regulars on the R7 that the increased service hasn't been officially decided upon yet. They are very much looking forward to a 30 minute frequency and a Sunday service! Sorry "Mr Doom and Gloom" is here. The locals won't see their services changed until the new contracts for many Orpington routes change in December 2016. TfL won't make individual route changes where there is a dependency on other routes also changing in the final months of current contracts. (I know the R7 isn't up for retender.) I'd even go so far as to suggest that the Orpington network might not change very much other than to make cuts. The new TfL business plan has already lopped off 1m extra miles off the bus network target (compared to the previous plan) which implies a squeeze on any expansionist plans. Depending on who gets in in May then the business plan may suddenly get very much worse very quickly. As I have said many times before it is economically illiterate to reduce the bus revenue take by freezing fares and introducing 1 hour bus tickets. The funding situation for the bus network is not good because patronage is down so much and there's no obvious way it can recover quickly. We have to accept that Orpington is really very very spoilt in terms of its bus network by virtue of just being inside Greater London. It is one area least likely to see vast improvements in its bus services because there aren't the vast numbers of passengers that there are, in say, Dagenham or Stratford or Harlesden. I am sure the R7 passengers do want a better service but they may have a fight on their hands courtesy of events largely outside of their influence.

I assume tranche 545 will be delayed as the awards are meant to be announced sometime in April? Could TfL announce the awards for the routes not affected by the proposals in this tranche?
545 * 61 Bromley North - Chislehurst * R1 Green Street Green - St Paul's Cray * R2 Petts Wood - Biggin Hill * R3 Princess Royal University Hospital - Chelsfield * R4 Princess Royal University Hospital - Pauls Cray Hill * R6 Orpington - St Mary Cray * R8 Orpington - Biggin Hill * R11 Green Street Green - Sidcup

The consultation has "disappeared" from the TfL website suggesting a response is about to be uploaded. Watch this space.
