I have seen elsewhere, cant remember where that there would be around 6 Volvo B7TL's converted to the Vantage Power hybrid system. I think it may be Metroline one of the other operators. Arriva would be doing a two month trial with 2 VLA's for the 123 to be converted.

I think this was already mentioned a while ago somewhere on the forum. As far as I know there hasn't been any more news regarding this.

If only they used first gen DW's as part of the trials! (unless its only developed so far to work with B7TL's)

If only they used first gen DW's as part of the trials! (unless its only developed so far to work with B7TL's) It's not confined to B7TLs as at least one ALX400 Trident from another firm has been done, I believe an ex-Metroline example. Appearantly DB300s were designed from the start to be easily convertible to hybrids. Looks like the two VLAs will be as quick as the E40Hs with the 280bhp motors, perhaps the same model motors are being used? Pity Abellio couldn't do the same with their euro5 09 reg Enviros on the 156.

Something tells me they're not coming back to the 123.

Something tells me they're not coming back to the 123. Probably, should they stay on 123 though, it'd be home to a lot of B7TL variety. Excluding Voith of course WN/AD (for 29/141) seems a good place for them to be put to use, seeing as WN is base and tested many other hybrids.

There is reasonable variety at that garage in terms of routes and vehicle types. I think the 123 has too many faster running sessions whereas a slog on the 29 or even the 221 or W3 would be a more representative comparative workout for a hybrid vehicle. I can see Arriva and TfL wanting a comparison against Volvo diesels, Volvo hybrids and the E400s on the W3.

Let's hope 'Buses' has a reliable source on hand! As I mentioned in the first post it would be a 2 month trial on route 123. Yes you did. I was sceptical about it. To be honest I still think it's a bit of an odd choice really given all the past debate about the relative unsuitability of hybrids [1] on longer routes with some faster running sections which the 123 does have. Obviously as they're VLAs Arriva don't have too many garages left with those as a type still in use. I'd have expected Norwood or possibly DX to offer a better choice of "tough" route on which to test a hybrid conversion. [1] debates passim as to why AR's Volvo B5LHs don't have the 123 on their blind set.

Until it leaves N, the 417 would of been an excellent choice because you have the steep Crown Dale & Central Hill sections to see how they fair with the hills and the 2 or 176 would of represented a 'tough' workout mixed in with heavy traffic conditions.
