The Singapore Government has now concluded negotiations to transfer all remaining SBS and SMRT operated routes to a contracted basis from 1 Sept 2016. The routes are packaged into different groupings with different durations thus allowing a phased retendering of each package as it comes to an end. Therefore SBS and SMRT remain in the bus business but will have to compete to retain work. Interesting that SBS have picked up a tendered package against lots of competition. Let's hope they haven't underpriced the package given the prices of the other bids. Also noteworthy that National Express, Go Ahead and Tower Transit all put in packages as well as SMRT, other local bidders plus the Chinese and an Aussie company. That's quite a scale of competition.
