A proposed new programme of works to improve the reliability and functionality of the 92 stock fleet on the Central Line. content.tfl.gov.uk/fpc-160708-15-central-line-improvement-programme.pdfThe programme covers replacement of the DC traction motors, more car body works, replacement of obsolete components, replacement of the data transmission system, RVAR works. Also proposes the withdrawal of through trains on the Woodford - Hainault section with it becoming a shuttle service instead. Also restoration of 100kph running on some open air sectons. These measures are to allow release of trains during the proposed works. The authority being sought now covers further development of options and costs with final authority being sought at the end of the year. Very interesting that the preferred solution is financially positive - based on considerable reductions in maintenance costs.

Today was the first day of the new, reduced timetable. (My fellow) Commuters were not happy. Thankfully, I do not have work today. The Grange Hill to Woodford branch has lost 2 or 3 straight through services from Grange Hill to Northolt, Grange Hill to West Ruislip and Grange Hill to Ruislip Gardens. These depart between 7-8am. Looking at the central line timetable on tfl's website at 6:48am there is a through train from Grange Hill to West Ruislip via Woodford.
However, now there are now EARLY trains at 5:25am and 5:40am from Grange Hill towards Woodford.
On twitter there are a few comments from passengers who travelled early this morning, which were intriguing to read.

Bombardier has been awarded a £112m seven year contract to replace motors and traction equipment on Central line
MITRAC a.c. motors will replace existing dc motors, along with new control equipment
Sounds like equipment will be built in Vasteras, Sweden and installed at Derby

There is a thread discussing this programme on the District Dave board. I've only skimmed the recent posts but I think only one train goes to Derby as the first mod train and then others are done at Acton. The first train is obviously the "learning train" as issues are discovered and Bombardier learn how to refine the works process. This updated process will be used back in London for the fleet mods. No timescales are known yet for the mods process. As I've only skimmed the posts I may have got things wrong so best to check on DD.

I did think there must be more detail put out somewhere as RTM reported the contract strating last Friday?!

Unfortunately TfL's reporting is now pretty abysmal on project stuff plus we have a big gap in Committee meetings meaning there hasn't been a recent update on many projects.

These were fitted at Derby and returned to London. They were taken by road to Old Dalby 17 August.

I really like the unique sound of the 92 stock so quite sad they sound like the S & 09 stock

As for the S stock it does not sound like the 09 stock at all. Or maybe as the S stock is slow. Just thinking of that sweet sound of the 09 stock entering and leaving the station.

I'd say the S stock and 2009 stock certainly do sound alike, they're both Movias and have that electric whirr when slowing down and speeding up. Hearing a 1992 stock like that would be beyond weird though, I love their sound at the moment.
