I know everyone meeds to be catered for but near enough the entirety of that video was spent focusing on the disabled section, thousands of able people will be usimg these trains don't they deserve a decent look to?

It's slowly but surely turning into a nationwide dispute. GWR will be next once the IEPs go into service and Virgin East Coast might get dragged in depending on how they decide to staff the trains.

This is going the way of the miners strike, a slow death. Unfortunately antagonizing the travelling public is probably going to cause the guards to need to hide so any safety claims are laughable. Has the union not realised it failed to get what they want on Southern. Do they really believe anyone will offer a jobs guarantee beyond the end of their franchise. One day the members will realise the union bosses are on a power grab and they could have had a job role change and pay hike instead of the futile retention of an obsolete role. (I did an industrial relations module as part of my degree in mid 1980s at height of analysis of success of strikes during early Thatcher years). This is classic union suicide behaviour as the union leaders are the ones without the job guarantees.

I really like the look of these new units- the way they have been designed allows for a level access from platform to trains- it's quite a different design to anything we've seen in the UK for quite a number of years

Ah yes those Stadler trains that are too heavy in bi-mode version and where the single door layout is going to screw the timetable because dwell times are going to be vastly longer than now. Way to go!! Apparently the West Anglia timetable is at great risk because the future Stansted Express dwell times at Tottenham Hale may stretch into minutes rather than current levels. The service is ridiculously busy at times and can tip out hundreds of people at T Hale and that using 2 doors per car EMUs. Trying to funnel the same numbers via single doors won't work! Same concerns apply on the London - Norwich route given the huge volumes boarding / alighting at Chelmsford and Colchester.

To be fair, the 3 and 4 car 755s will be fine with one door per carriage in rural East Anglia. At peak times the Mark 3 coach doorways are a nightmare, I think the 745s will be an improvement. The 745s are unlikely to be stopping at Chelmsford in the peaks, Colchester commuters should be fine, many of them struggle to get on the services from Norwich as it is so the capacity increase the 745s bring over the IC sets may help.
There are though a whole host of other issues that GA don't seem to have answers for.
The biggest concern is over the loss of 8 car sets off-peak on both WA and GEML. GA won't say whether off-peak services will be 5 or 10 car consists. While the new 5 car Aventra's provide a similar seating capacity to an 8 car 321 set there will be less standing space and consequently more people will be crammed into a smaller space, which is not ideal. Fewer doors too. Others include, the Bi-modes' 500 mile limit between refuels, the lack of a Depot at Manningtree upon which their bid timetable was based, rumours that the consultation timetable is delayed because they just can't get it to work, and the feeling that the mix of Aventra units will be nowhere near enough to run the service.
Interesting times in East Anglia approach. I hope it does go smoothly, because the Aventras will be most welcome on my commute but experience tells me otherwise.
