TFL need to pull their finger out and get an announcement on the ibus system to say please make sure you have your pass/oyster card ready when boarding, too many customers walking past and putting their bag on a seat and then searching for it which as we know holds up the bus for a few minutes, they then casually walk up beep their oyster and stroll off without even saying anything.
If we have an announcement we can play it will re-enforce the message of being ready and slightly embarrass that customer who seems to think the big red taxi is just for them.
TFL take note!

Would be more useful for the announcement to be played at bus stops (only major busy ones over a certain patronage)

After posting.... the very next day I noticed posters on some bus shelters asking customers to have their pass/oystercard ready when boarding. As good as this is the bus announcement itself would be better because it's also informing other customers what the holdup was.

If we have an announcement we can play it will re-enforce the message of being ready and slightly embarrass that customer who seems to think the big red taxi is just for them. TFL take note! They had put out those notices early this year at bus stops. Chances are that if you have an ibus notice to play it, that type of person would be too thick or wont even listen to it anyway. Best thing I did, was deliberately wait until they found there pass and touched it before the bus moved off. I didn't care of the excuse "I have my pass you can go" I would not move off until they touch the pass. Many of these people would be at the stop standing waiting for the bus before it approached, they had more than enough time, so why should I take them if they are too lazy to check before they go. If they were that concerned on the bus going quicker they would look before the bus moved off. If every driver did this then people would get the message. Just too many drivers do not and it then gives people that excuse to do this. Also a lot of times, around 1 in 10 times it could end up with the person Oyster at zero value or less. There are also certain individuals that play on this that they would wait around the corner or on the other side of the road and have no money on Oyster. So when the bus turns up, they pretend they are running for the bus. SO come on and pretend to lok for the card hoping the driver would drive off. If the driver calls them back after then they know the driver is unlikely to kick them off for out of date or not enough money.

Tbh it's really useful when you're running early and looking for an excuse to hold back and let the passenger take the flack for holding the bus up.
Still would be nice to have the ibus announcement tho.

Could there be announcement for "there are no seats on upstairs please go down stairs". Or "no standing on the top deck or stairs". 😜

I know I am probably months behind the times but on the 123 today the driver had to play some announcements. As there was a 20 minute gap in front of us (good old Arriva can't find a single spare bus on a Saturday ) and there was the "Walthamstow Garden Party" creating lots more trips the driver had to play the "seats are available on the upper deck" announcement. However I notice it has been added to with words to the effect of "please go upstairs and take a seat" which is a good addition as it "instructs" people rather than leaving things too open. People did actually come upstairs which was a bonus!

Or "no standing on the top deck or stairs". 😜 There is already one for the latter I know that the latter is already is use. It's just most drivers tend to ignore it. Like for example the 94 that I was using was packed and every seat was taken. A few decided to stand on the top deck and the stairs. The driver did nothing about this and only played the ''No standing on the top deck" once. I wonder if there is a message then why don't bus drivers use it.

There is already one for the latter I know that the latter is already is use. Drivers appear to have different tolerance levels for people standing upstairs. Some drivers won't move their bus if anyone is standing upstairs or on the stairs. You usually get a stand off when this happens and only when the tutting and muttering from passengers reaches a crescendo are people pressured to move downstairs. Meanwhile the bus goes nowhere. Other drivers are prepared to take a chance and allow standing, presumably in the knowledge that on many routes the overcrowding will only last a few stops and people will get off and people will find seats or come downstairs. The final variant is where a driver is very, very late usually not his fault (stuck in a jam behind an accident or similar) and will flex the rules to get as many people on the bus and moving. This tends to go down well with the poor passengers who've been waiting for ages - try getting stuck waiting for a bus on the A406 when someone's thrown themselves off a bridge on to the road and the road's closed and vehicles are jammed for miles. There aren't really that many alternative routes home so you have to wait and you just hope a driver will be kind and let you on. And yes I speak from personal experience! Obviously not carrying any standees upstairs is the legally correct thing to do but sometimes it's good to be on the receiving end of a little "rule flexibility" if you've been delayed. I'd never pressure a bus driver to break the rules - his licence and livelihood is at stake and it's the driver's decision no-one else's.
