Have the results of the consultation on devolving rail services to TfL been published? There will be an awkward bit of handling here - although it was only a consultation, much of the presentation suggested it was a done deal.

Sounds very good but I'm not sure where the money is coming from? Bit of confusion here, SouthEastern provides what DfT specified in the franchise. They weren't required to provide the items in the list so why would they as franchises are subject to cap and collar (penalty regime where excess profits or losses are shared with DfT) It appears that the SE franchise in 2018 is the first one proposed (SW is already at final bid selection so too advanced), clearly some planning needs to happen before tenders are issued. It would still be possible for TfL to run the near London local trains if the tracks on that section remain as now. In fact it would be messy to have one company linked to an operator if Thameslink or Overground also share the track. SW franchise is aledgedly to have an option to transfer London workings sometime 2019-2022 (although the boundary and possible zone7 are contentious issues. Epsom, Esher, Ashford etc in or out) DfT could specify TfL items if it wanted, but presumably TfL won't top up unless it gets train operation. It also doesn't solve the problem of lack of line capacity or intensity of use which causes maintenance problems. We currently have a 458 running around with seating that's obviously been damaged and replaced with the blue first group livery. Either someone's having a laugh... or.....

Well hopefully now Southeastern can get a move on with bringing out a consultation for there services with changes due to happen in conjunction with Thaneslink Programme and future GTR services running along SE routes. Also SE are due the rest of Thameslinks 377/5's very soon which should then release the 465/9's to strengthen metro services and hopefully more 12 car workings

DfT did a shocking job with the specifications of the original franchises, making it almost impossible to run. Hence bad services.
TfL wants to help out. Look at what we have done with the devolved services!
Dft not convinced, messes up again by rejecting this opportunity.
If I were TfL, I would stick it to them and not help out at all.

Well the media coverage today is not exactly wonderful for Mr Grayling given the leaked letter shows he was predisposed to act purely on political grounds (to deprive Labour) rather than for the benefits of passengers. When you manage to p*ss off your own side - Tory Councils, Tory AMs and Bob Neill, MP for Bromley - you have to ask what the heck is going on. I note with interest that the Assembly Member for Croydon, Mr O'Connell, is asking for Oyster to be extended to Reigate. I imagine there might be a rather perfunctory response to that Mayor's Question. No reason why TfL should bother with that given DfT have given "two fingers" to their ideas.

He's going nowhere and he knows it. Mrs May is not going to lose a Transport Sec off the back of blocking rail devolution even if people in her own party are "not happy" (polite phrasing) with the decision.
