I have just google'd and see that these new 320's are to replace 6 of the 387. Bit of a strange one, especially as the 387's are not even 10 years old The 387s were only intended as a stop gap as far as I am aware. This probably explains why they have the Southern/GN interior - I wonder if it was always likely for them to eventually join the similar examples at Govia Thameslink Railway?

Correct, the 387s were a temporary fix due to overcrowding (pre Covid) Only 74 units of class 357 were built, but growth in the area meant needed more like 80+ units were needed The new units are 24m vehicles, so a 5 car unit is about same length as 6 cars of an electrostar. 3 of the class 387 units were loaned to GWR when cracks were discovered on the Hitach 800 & 802 fleet, but I am not sure where they are moving to when no longer needed by c2c
