I noticed this afternoon that more than a year after Hammersmith Bridge shut, some of the Castlenau terminating 485's still display Hammersmith on the front blind. SE286 doing the honours today. Most show Castelnau, not sure if that particular batch of buses have Castelnau on the blinds

I've heard that Hammermsith Bridge is closing for pedestrians from tomorrow and may not open for months. This isn't confirmed but that's what people are saying on the twitter and local forums.
EDIT. It's true bridge is closed to everyone right now due to serious safety concerns. This includes people using the footpaths underneath the bridge and boats as well.

It's true bridge is closed to everyone right now due to serious safety concerns. There could be quite a few people that could be caught out by this. Could probably see routes like 209 and 485 suddenly becoming quieter and more passengers taking the 533. I hope they increase the 533 frequency if passengers suddenly start using the 533 because of the closure.

The 533 will become very popular and I think TfL should be thinking about a frequency increase for the route.

Will Hammersmith Bridge every get strengthened to allow double deckers? Back in 2016 I think there were plans to close Hammersmith Bridge for like a year to allow double deckers hence why the RATP VHs were ordered for the 72 but the 72 never got its VHs because the Bridge strengthening kept being delayed year after year. Now that Bridge has been closed indefinitely due to structural issues do you think that the strengthening project of Hammersmith Bridge to allow double deckers to go over it ever start or has been postponed cancelled?

Before Hammersmith Bridge was shut there were plans to strengthen it so that double deckers can go over it I wondering are those plans now dead?

With the financial difficulties the public sector is facing you can rule it out

The heat has expanded the cracks that now means it can't even be walked across or boats sail underneath according to the press.

Including pedestrians. To be honest, I'm not very surprised - it was a poorly made bridge, and nothing in the UK was built to withstand near 40 degree heat, humans and buildings alike . To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if vehicles weren't allowed to go on the bridge once it's "done". It's very expensive to repair and considering the issues TfL were in earlier this year, I don't doubt that they would make it to hold pedestrians and cycles only. Granted, that's what I just assumed, and will be unlikely considering the amount of money both the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and TfL have invested into this, but at this point, it seems unviable to repair, especially with how frequently the bridge runs into issues.

In the nicest possible way isn't this pretty much what I posted earlier?

In the nicest possible way isn't this pretty much what I posted earlier? And does it matter at the end of the day. Richard posted a new link with the news story. Said it before repeated info better than none. Forum seems in a funny place at the moment.
