Does anyone know what buses Metroline use on their country routes (84/PB1/242) apart from the DELs? TIA They have a few DES, DSD and TPL's. I would expect the DSD and TPL's not to have long left before retirement.

Does anyone know what buses Metroline use on their country routes (84/PB1/242) apart from the DELs? TIA The 84 and 242 mainly see DELs and DESs and rarely, the DEMs. Not sure what's happening with half of the batch now the W9 has gone, other than more workings on the 384. The PB1 sees DESs, I think longer buses aren't allowed on the route. The DSDs (there are only 2, DSD209 and DSD212?) go out on all the commercial routes. The TPLs (there are only four, TPL241, TPL249, TPL273, TPL274?) venture out onto the 84 during the week and Saturdays but sadly don't do many journeys and I don't think they operate on 84A services to Luton. There are only two TPs that I recall seeing on the 84, TP435 and TP441. I haven't seen either for a while so may have been withdrawn? I believe the 84 and 242 were double decker routes before the drab DELs arrived and ruined everything. Every year the buses get smaller, most of my recent journeys on the 84 were DESs. I can't really speak on what buses of choice are for the 242 as it's so infrequent and I never see it. 😂

The DEL's replaced the DLF's in 2008.

Under Centrebus / Uno longer buses did sometimes appear on the PB1, so it can be done. I think Metroline have only used DESs and DSDs since taking the route back though.

It's normally the provincial DESs but the TFL DESs still make it out on the country routes, just that the driver has to carry a portable ticket machine of course.
