I live in Ilford and decided for the first time in about 20 years to take a walk along Chigwell Road from the station to Woodford Bridge. No buses go along there so I don't get to see the area usually. School routes 667 and 804 run only. There's two stops I passed, Club House, and West Hatch School, but passing them I came across a stop on the eastbound side only called The Childers. There was no numbers or timetables, and I cant believe it's leftover from an old route that travelled down there 30 years ago, 235 I think. Anyone know why that stop is there? My bus App " buses due" which I recommend, doesn't recognise the stop on its map.

How old does the stop look? If it's a hangover from the past it will be a concrete pole with a roundel and no 'towards...'.

There was a proposal by Chigwell residents and West Hatch High School for Route W14 to go to Chigwell Station back in 2005.

Looking at the stop on Streetview I wonder it has been withdrawn from use because if a bus stops there it would foul the side turning into The Childers. It doesn't look in quite the right place to me and it's not unknown for stops to be removed following a "risk assessment".
TfL recently removed the s/b stop called "The Drive" on Cranbrook Road, Ilford. The stop and shelter were damaged after something collided with them. The shelter and stop remained closed and unrepaired for months and months and then TfL removed the stop from I-Bus announcements. A little while later the stop pole and shelter vanished. It's a shame because it was actually quite a popular stop for people to alight at and it leaves a lengthy gap between the Valentines Park and Coventry Road stops. No consultation about any of that either!!

I have seen this stop used while the 275 was on diversion, due to the closure of Tomswood Hill/Road. Apart from when the 275 is diverted down Chigwell Road to Chigwell Station and via the 167 to Barkingside, the stop isn't used.

I only frequent that way at weekend nights on the N145, and I'm pretty sure the bus stop and shelter was replaced, and the stop renamed The Drive Methodist Church. A lookey loo on the TfL website confirms the stop name, but the map doesn't confirm its current location. At this point my uncertainty is only flame to speculation, so I'll make sure to pass by The Drive fairly soon for confirmation. As for the Chigwell Road stops; it seems fairly obvious that a regular TfL route was planned to travel down the road, but complications arised somewhere (I bet it was an issue with buses standing) that caused stops to be erected but never used. Haven't been up there in a while but Loughton and Debden areas where routes 20 and 167 operate; if there are 2 stops in succession in the town centre for example, one's a LBSL flag and the other is one from Essex County Council. So TfL definately aren't erecting their infrastructure for the sake of it!! The question to ask is not why is it there, but it's why there are no regular buses/bus routes serving it.

It might not be definitely because a route was previously planned to run down there but more to do with the stop being located just within Redbridge rather than Essex County Council - I suspect it was a previous bus stop for the 804. I can't think of a situation where we currently have a non LBSL bus stop within a London Borough?

I am talking about a stop on Cranbrook Rd close to the junction with the Drive itself, beside the public toilets on the edge of Valentines Park. If you bring up the map view for a stop near there (I used the Cranbrook Rd stop on the 145) you will see a stop labelled ">s" - if you click it it only lists the 667 as stopping there which is clearly a data error. I can tell you for certain there is NO stop or shelter there unless TfL have sneaked in and installed one since last Saturday. They removed it from I-Bus announcements *before* they removed the shelter. I even had one instance where someone rang the bell just as we got to where the stop used to be. The 123 driver was clearly on auto pilot as he stopped and opened the doors (!) but the lady didn't get off - she wanted Coventry Road. The Drive, Methodist Church stop is just after the junction with *Eastern Avenue* which is not where I am talking about.

Do forgive my confusion, I was supposed to spend today sleeping and I haven't got a wink all day!! Now that I know exactly where you're talking about lool, yes I did spot that two Fridays aback. Thought TfL were so cash-strapped that they were taking ages to replace the bus stop!! My fatigued word counts for nothing at this point haha but I did seem to notice The Drive on iBus (as I think we all say the announcements together with Emma Clarke ) but when I saw no bus shelter or stop; I assumed the worst and thought a horrific and possibly fatal accident happened and was delaying the installment. But it's far worse; TfL refusing to spend dosh on speed tables and railings/bollards on that blind bend on Cranbrook Road and instead inconveniencing passengers by removing the bus stop "for safety reasons" so they can save a few cobblers. Completely speechless after that tact move. And vjaska I know you like to play 'Guess the County Boundary' as you have in the past with a certain someone lool; but I did want to state that Chigwell Road is on the right side of the London boundary; and if you end up at Chigwell station then you're in Essex. That's my disclaimer if anyone for that matter decides they want to play this topical game!

Completely speechless after that tact move. I doubt Cranbrook Rd is a TfL road, much more likely it's Redbridge Council's responsibility. Thankfully Redbridge have NOT caught Waltham Forest disease and installed humps and speed tables every few metres. I bl**dy hate what LBWF have done to the roads - it's so uncomfortable if you're on a bus and borderline dangerous if you are descending the staircase when a bus goes over the ramp, even slowly. I have two speed tables between the penultimate stop and my stop on the 123. I have nearly fallen downstairs or lost my footing on more than one occasion. If some council numpty had ever engaged their brain they'd have identified that risk but, of course, they haven't because they don't use the buses. They just think creating traffic jams and crawling traffic is a super splendid idea. The fools.

Cranbrook Road is indeed a Redbridge road & I fully agree regarding councils installating road humps in stupid places like main roads - Lambeth did it on the bend of Tulse Hill next to Cressingham Gardens except this bend regularly has parked cars and traffic islands to negotiate as well.
