There was never any 100% confirmed date. It was subject to works being complete at Royal Wharf. The extension is very minor in the scheme of things and to be honest can’t see it being a massive success but time will tell. I think it will help the Royal Wharf residents and gives them a good link to Westfield The long way around via Custom House when instead it’s much quicker to use the direct DLR service or even a 330 to Canning Town then the 69 to Stratford. Really don’t think the type of people moving into Royal Wharf are everyday bus users.

We are now close to 4 months since the east London changes started. I am still not convinced they have been a great successes! Has anyone seen the loading during peaks? There is no hustle and bustle from train to bus like at other interchanges. To me it seems most people walk to Custom House or are interchanging from the DLR.
From my daytime and weekend obs the 304 is still pretty lightly used it usually has a max 5 passengers getting off at the last stop and never seen more than 1 or 2 passengers at the first stop on the bus stand. The 474 does seem to have been a success and loading have picked up over the new section. I regularly see passengers boarding and departing buses on the new section so guess this has opened new travel options. The 300 has always been a bus single decker route so hard to see any changes. As for the 241 it's lightly used from the A13 to Prince Regent but we will see what happens after the extension starts on the 24th.

I do think some of the changes in East London could have been simplified with everything staying as it was and a new bus route being introduced between Royal Wharf and East Ham via Custom House, Freemasons Road, Newham General and Barking Road.

I've visited Custom House a few times and the stand often has 2-3 buses yet the waits for the 304 are so long that you might as well get a 147 to East Ham. Even just glacing at LVF there are noticable gaps with no 304s for ages at multiple points, not sure if it is glitching or if it is actually that bad. Custom House still feels like a ghost town, the 147 for example gets completely rammed from Upton Park to Ilford yet the whole Custom House area is crickets.

The 304 much like most GAL routes seems to have very generous stand and running time! Yes there is pretty much always 2 buses on the stand and usually one bus approaching the stand from Prince regent whenever I am driving that way. I do occasionally see passengers standing between the 147 and 304 stop so they can catch whichever bus departs first but not often. The 474 seems to pick up well along Victoria Dock road towards North Woolwich / Beckton so these are new journey that have opened up.
The revised 104 at Beckton seems to have been more successful towards Lonsdale Avenue.

Was thinking about this today what route was you thinking the bus would take? I assume the same as the 304 from Manor Park then right from Newham General to Greengate then along Barking Road to New Barn Street then Freemasons Road, Custom House then via the revised 241 to Royal Wharf?

The Custom house bus stand and stops could really do with some street lighting! it looked so dark and depressing when I passed around 6pm. Its not a nice environment for passengers to wait.
On the plus side the stops are really busy in the peaks and much like Canning Town station nearly all passengers are heading towards Prince Regent / Plaistow / Beckton or North Woolwich.

It certainly came into its own yday with several people I know using Custom House from the Upton Park/East Ham areas to use the Elizabeth Line. I wouldn't be surprised if they travel that way more often.

Not sure if its related to the rerouting but the 474 seems to suffer a lot of bunching even during late evenings. I guess major traffic hot spots around East Ham and the A13 junction don't help matters.
Spotted several 241's recently and they are still very lightly used after Custom House towards Royal Wharf. I am not sure how well they are used in the peaks? I am still not convinced the recent changes were the best idea and think certain areas are over bused (Custom House - Silvertown / Victoria Dock Road area). Hopefully passenger numbers pick up before even more routes are introduced like the 129 to Beckton.

Tbh I think the changes seemed to be on the basis that everyone would want to head to Custom House to use the Elizabeth Line and a by product of that seems to be even more routes to Beckton with the 104 split.

Don’t get me wrong some changes are working. The 304 really picked up after a few months. The 474 is a bit funny it’s almost like two routes now, during the day and early evening it’s pretty well used from Canning Town to Custom House mainly taking over the former 241 passengers who use Canning Town for shopping and the station. The 474 then picks up passengers from Custom House towards North Woolwich. The 147 which was not subject to change is still ridiculous busy and the stop at Custom House station is always busy it’s a shame the 304 stop is so clumsy. Passengers have to stand between the two stops to see what bus will depart first as passengers can use both routes when heading as far as Newham Hospital.

Just a mini rant from me. I know I should be over the 241 changes by now but its so annoying!
I had to pop to Stratford today and wanted to use buses more in 2023 so I had am now forced to either catch two buses or have a 10 minute walk to either a 69 or 241 stop. I know most are not local to my area but you would not believe how useful the link was and was well used. The 474 feels the gap from Canning Town to Custom House but I am yet to see passengers board buses heading towards Manor Park from the Keir Hardie where as previously would see lots of passengers boarding the 241.
Meanwhile the 241 carries fresh air from Freemasons Road to Royal Wharf. I wonder if in a few years with might get a U turn on these changes like they are doing on the 23.
