Hi guys.
(Mods sorry if posted in wrong area).
I am returning to live in the UK soon hopefully in the spring, as the title says I want to buy a Leyland titan, I used to drive them in London for MTL London and previously London northern, always disliked the metro bus, I digress, can anyone shed any light on whom may sell, these I have tried looking in the regular places, website based auction and bus sales, but they seem hard to find Now. I would prefer under a T1000 and a KYX end on the plate or a CUV.
Any information on where I could maybe source one would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
HA

Thanks HA I very much doubt you will find anything like that here they are quite thin on the ground, the only other thing you could do is buy a registration online with the ending you like for whatever bus you eventually purchase

Yes, I have seen one but it was the Olympian. But I always have preferred the titan, I recall getting disciplined back in 1996, I was 20 and London suburban ED garage had closed and I took a titan in suburban colours and drove it on route 10. My OM was not impressed, I did say it was already numbered up for the route but they knew I was telling porkies. I have sent one titan for sale so far at 8,000£ but it was not up to the spec I want. I think there is 2/3 here in Australia so if I can source one I will bring it back to the uk.

The best thing i can suggest is go on Facebook and search for Bromley bus preservation group, as they are really good at tracking buses down and might be able to help you out. Other than that search operates who have ran them and ask.

They are thin on the ground compared to about 5 years ago, there were loads of them up for sale at cheap prices.

A much more substantial bus than the Metrobus. When Sidcup trialled a few against the same number of Ms the T won hands down. I travelled on both in and around Orpington on the 51, and the M was all rattles. Yes, the T cost more but you get what you pay for!

Reliability was never a problem for the metro unlike the Titan. Relatively few Titans were ever sold for the rest of the country as a consequence. Metrobus wins hands down for me.

Not quite got the hang of replying to a previous post with quotes attached, so apologies to you, Paulo.
Perhaps I was unlucky, I admit to not travelling on too many Metrobuses as most of my trips in that era were in SE and E London, apart from the central area. I believe the Titan was a more sophisticated bus, for which read 'complicated' from an engineering point of view. The Routemaster too never gained acceptance when new from bus companies outside London either, so I don't read too much into that. I do know that Titans. were still being operated just outside the TfL area right up until their use became prohibited. From a passenger view, it just seemed a more substantial bus. Metros in my part of SE London meant the Metropolitans - now there was a bus! When they weren't broken down they hurtled around at great speed when on crew routes. One I was on got chased and stopped by a speed cop in Lewisham Way - happy days!

I think your getting mixed up slightly - Titans did not sell well to the rest of the UK whilst in production but once London Buses commenced sales of them in 1993, they sold very well to provincial & London operators alike just like the Metrobus did as well. The reasons why Titans did not sell to the rest of the UK whilst in production was due to being specified rigidly to London Transport's own spec particularly as they had a hand in the design of it - the Olympian was born to fill the needs of a provinicial spec which commonly consisted of being to a simpler spec than the complex Titan I have no prefrenece over either as along with the L class ECW Olympians, T's & M's are my three all time favourite double deckers ever

There were chronic production problems and Leyland eventually moved the production line. I suspect that if Leyland had been able to produce vehicles on time for non London operators then far more would have been bought. After all GMPTE hung on to theirs for a fair while as did Reading Buses. Tyne and Wear had ordered a small batch after evaluating a prototype (I never saw it in service) but that order was cancelled because of delays. Tyne and Wear didn't plump for the Metrobus either. It went back to Atlanteans and Fleetlines after the Metropolitan ceased to be available.
