What is the point of these TV screens in buses that air nothing but the on board CCTV back at you? Would make more sense to have some sort of open source data or even a fully integrated TV channel? TfL Line Status? News? Weather? Babestation?

I thought the point was to show passengers they are on cctv and therefore deter any bad behaviour, it certainly worked with the graffiti, I remember the upper deck windows on the London buses in the late 80's, you could hardly see out of them!

Precisely. We certainly don't need TV channels or advertising - we have endless exposure to adverts. IIRC some buses in Hong Kong have advertising / TV on their in bus screens. It is immensely annoying (even ignoring the language issues). The only buses I've used where TV screens were useful were on the Cityflyer services from HK Airport. They give a lot of info about the route, the security measures on the bus to protect your luggage and also about HK itself and how to use public transport to get around. Obviously there is an element of promotion for Citybus bus services included but it is actually informative. It switches to next stop information as the bus approaches stops and gives info on "bus to bus" fare interchange deals / routes where valid.

TfL Line Status? News? Weather? Babestation? We had this sort of thing before - it was called Crystal Eyes and was fitted to some buses around 2003-04. They showed adverts, news & other various bits. I think most, along with those carrying regular CCTV screens, were removed when I-Bus was fitted. I think something like showing route or line status could work but not adverts or TV personally - anyone who wants to watch TV on the go will most likely have downloaded whatever programs they wish to watch
