Is there anywhere to find the actual number of miles a particular route is both past routes and present. What made me wonder is that in 1936, the 12 ran all the way from South Croydon to Willesden Junction and the PVR was 90 Today the 12 only runs between Oxford Circus and Dulwich Library with a PVR of 33

Not sure about historical information to be honest. There might be something in the TfL Archives which the public can request access to. However I don't know if something as simple as a book or document of scheduled mileage was something that LT / LRT / TfL produced. Other forum members might know what old documents were produced. The online bus schedules don't include kilometrage. On Ian Armstrong's site he often has a copy of the bus tender route specification. Those include a mileage list by direction but again only for current routes.

The Omnibus Society would almost certainly possess a lot of this information, although I'm not sure how much might be accessible to non-members. I've been promising myself for about sixty years that 'one day, when I grow up' I'll treat myself to membership, but that day has never come, to which many sighs of relief from my family, at least.Seriously, try them, I believe many of their specialist publications are available to the general public.
I'm pretty sure that L.T. or its successors from 1948 onwards have never published this info and I don't remember the London Omnibus Traction Society producing supps on this either, but I've only been a member since 1969 and possibly there was something before that.
