198's have Monks Orchard on the blind when terminating at the same stop the 356 finishes at but bizarrely I've also seen a 367 also displaying Monks Orchard when terminating at Shirley Library! Like said previously regarding this name living in the area the term Monks Orchard is a funny one. Ironically enough both areas the 367 serves Orchard Avenue/The Glade and 198/194/356 - Monks Orchard Road/Royal Bethlem Hospital/Wickham Road/Bridle Road is all technically classed as Monks Orchard, with the area being the area of Shirley in between The Glade, Orchard Avenue and Monks Orchard Road with Bethlem Royal Hospital being in the middle north of Wickham Road. What should be done is a sub blind saying the road or part of Monks Orchard they terminate in. However another issue is a lot of locals don't refer to the area being Monks Orchard most just say Shirley or West Wickham for the part east of Bethlem Royal Hospital. Regarding the usage of the 367 blind like you just said it is inaccurate and there should be the Shirley blind used however if coming from Bromley it makes sense somewhat as it wouldn't venture into the main part Shirley and terminate at the top of Monks Orchard/Orchard Avenue even though the library is in Shirley proper itself. From Croydon there's just no sense. 198 use is accurate that part really and truly is Monks Orchard and Shirley in my opinion for this area shouldn't be used as a blind as it serves past the main Shirley district. However like you said it will cause confusion as the 356 permanently terminates there and only has and uses a Shirley blind despite going near Shirley's main shopping district in Wickham Road.

When the 166 terminated where the 356 currently is up until 1998, it was blinded as Shirley, Monks Orchard Road IIRC?

Question with Shirley Inn, the pub called the Shirley Inn is still there so why the name change to Shirley Library when that's actually a stop ahead?

I'm not sure but it could be the supposed policy that TfL has about including pubs on its destination blinds as it doesn't look good in today's 'sensitive' society. In years gone by pubs were happy to let buses terminate on their forecourts, such as The Fox in Keston for the 146, The Beehive in Lambourne End for the 150 and any number of routes at the Royal Forest Hotel in Chingford. Sad, as for years we had destinations such as 'Mitcham - Cricketers' for the 88 and 'Palmers Green - Cock' for the 261. The other thing TfL don't like is garages being shown as ultimate destinations on their own so they put place names before them in capitals with examples such as BELLINGHAM - Catford Bus Garage, WILLESDEN - Bus Garage and PLUMSTEAD - Bus Garage. An exception is seen with some of TC's Enviro 200's still displaying South Croydon Garage however.

I know Catford is the bigger place in the area and is next door to Bellingham but I don't know why the bus garage wasn't named just Bellingham Bus Garage at the beginning just makes life easier.

An exception is seen with some of TC's Enviro 200's still displaying South Croydon Garage however. Funny you say that as pub names are getting used less and less nowadays and I agree with Tfl here not even because of sensitivity whatsoever but the fact that the days of pubs being used as actual place destinations themselves are ending due to a lot of them closing due to high prices of Pubs themselves, rent prices and drink prices in London especially where people are now either drinking less or not at all, or going for cheaper alternatives through Supermarkets/Corner shops or Pub chains such as Wetherspoons so that individuality of pubs are gone now. So I don't agree with this, an example I can use is South Croydon Swan and Sugar Loaf for example which is where the 468 terminates which originally was a pub standing in the centre of the junction, this closed and became a Tesco. Despite being still known locally as Swan and Sugar Loaf and bus stops in the area still having the name TfL changes the blind name to South Croydon South End, which makes sense as this is last the main road that the 468 serves and to outsiders will have more understanding of we're there going. Saying that the common trend is bus blinds to be sub divided now with the road it terminates on which I'm not the biggest fan would prefer landmarks as people using buses are not privy with road names imo, but it does make geographically sense and landmarks change roads don't or rarely do at that aspect. Like you said Mitcham-Cricketers just became Cricketers and I'm pretty sure hasn't been used since S1 got extended to Lavender Fields, Palmers Green - Cock to just Palmers Green - North Circular Road and Keston just 146. Saying that I'm not sure if pubs will be as easily accepting for buses to terminate in there courtyard nowadays either, but that's another argument.

But T's blind doesn't make sense for example with consistency of Pub names, not in the area but is the Pub Sill there? But saying that as seen here and stated in my previous post tfl want to go with the street name as possible with sub blinds.

An exception is seen with some of TC's Enviro 200's still displaying South Croydon Garage however. With the bus garage blind this has changed in style because of the new blinds where they have a sub destination underneath it, rather then getting squashed next to it which previously used to happen. Hence the BELLINGHAM - Catford Bus Garage for example, rather then Bellingham, Catford Bus Garage. And with your South Croydon Garage comment in newer blinds it is styled like the above SOUTH CROYDON - Bus Garage. In my opinion this makes sense as there blinds are now much more easier to see and are clearer only point it doesn't work is for example CROYDON - Town Centre, as these ain't clear enough in my opinion but I've explained this in my previous post. The reason why these blinds have a bus garage underneath is because another route terminates in the area in a different place unlike the other examples another user posted with West Norwood where all the buses in West Norwood terminate by the Bus Garage area, for example Bellingham has the Bellingham, Old Bromley Road stand which no buses but is still there by the McDonalds, it is also done because Catford Bus Garage is the name of the garage but it is actually in Bellingham so is done to show where in Bellingham the bus terminates but to also show passengers Catford Bus Garage is past Catford in the next town Bellingham. Willesden I'm not too sure not from the area, believe confusion could come with Willesden Junction or the Sports Arena. I guess another reason with Willesden is because the Bus Garage is by itself deserted from the rest of Willesden and the Station so is down to separate and declare where passengers are going, also because it is a local landmark as well. Plumstead has Plumstead Station which the 53 terminates and South Croydon has South Croydon South End where the 468 terminates.

Whilst West Norwood is correct, it is far more vague than the old blind which was Norwood Bus Garage which was where the 2 (and 68 under Arriva and then eventually under Go-Ahead after a period standing at West Norwood Station) actually terminates. West Norwood is a bigger area and stretches from the garage to where the old fire station was near Lancaster Avenue. The West Norwood blind is also shared with the 322 which doesn't terminate at the garage or station - personally, they wasted money even changing the Norwood Bus Garage blind.

The West Norwood blind is also shared with the 322 which doesn't terminate at the garage or station - personally, they wasted money even changing the Norwood Bus Garage blind. I agree West Norwood's definition as an area is massive I'd even argue past the old fire station and that even up to Tulse Hill Station roundabout itself could be argued to be in West Norwood as it is on the North side of Norwood Road but just south of the South Circular whilst some can argue Tulse Hill actually starts from the Tulse Hill and Upper Tulse Hill roads itself north of the South Circular/Roundabout, but that's neither here or there, just saying how big the area is. And don't let me get started over the Norwood Bus Garage blind as yes that is the name of the Bus Garage but Norwood by itself is a big area including South Norwood/Norwood Junction, Upper Norwood and greatly speaking all the places that used to be in the Great North Wood, but I digress. I agree that the 2 should have the blind of West Norwood, Bus Garage as this is where the route actually starts and terminates. The 68 is an odd one as it terminates at the Station which is a stop away from the Bus Garage but then starts a stop ahead at St Julian's Farm Road so I think a blind of West Norwood Station as that's where it terminates makes sense. 315 only a stop further at Rothschild Road which is close to the Bus Garage basically next to it, but like you said not the bus garage so I guess West Norwood, Rothschild Road makes sense as it is the last stop of the route and it doesn't terminate at the Bus Garage or Station. I do agree with you that the terminating situation at West Norwood is a mess, but I do get why they did change at as lie you said they changed it when the 68 went to GAL and got moved out of standing out of the Bus Garage if I'm correct, and with 315 and 68 all stopping a stop away from the Bus Garage to simplify things and cut costs, I imagine they just merged it all into one blind even though they shouldn't do it. But again it is a lot of faff for terminuses that are probably less then a 5 minute walk from each other.

Bus Garage blinds I’ve noticed are all in Capitals and the area in Lower case lettering. One that is missed out a lot. Bromley Common, BUS GARAGE To be quite honest not every blind needs to describe Bus Garage. Camberwell Green is a well known area so I wouldn’t change it. Other examples you missed A - Sutton, Bushey Road AD - Palmers Green, North Circular Road AE - Ash Grove AR - Tottenham, Town Hall CT - Hackney Central HK - Ash Grove MB - Green Street Green Q - Camberwell Green SF - Stamford Hill SW - Stockwell WL - Camberwell Green WN - Wood Green X - Westbourne Park
