Hi all,
Sorry for creating a thread to ask a simple question but sure someone here will be able to help me!
I need to use the Northern Line from Bank DLR later this week but understand there is a diversion route were you are forced to exit the station at Monument and walk back to Bank and enter the Northern line this way. I used the station on Saturday and the corridor was blocked so used the stairs up to the Northern Line to access the Central Line but don't believe this is possible Monday to Friday as a one way system is in place.
Can anyone confirm the above is correct? I just need to judge how much time I need to allow.
Many Thanks!

I don't believe this is the case. If you are the front of the DLR right by the front doors then you just walk off, take a left. Up the escalators then take a right for the Northern. Although if you are at the rear of the DLR you might end up being told to go via the District and Circle lines. The issue is the DLR platforms are no longer available as a through route so effectively it's just become one platform with two entrances.

Excellent thanks for that, I will squeeze in the front carriage.

The large blue hoarding to the new DLR escalators and Central Line moving walkway have come down at Northern Line platform level.
Hopefully by this time next week we will see these new parts of the station open.
After years of using hectic confluence to reach the northern line, I’m looking forward to using the new moving walkways.

I went through this morning and they were all still up so I assume it must have happened during the day.

Will the existing escalators from the DLR up to the Northern and Central Line before refurbished? This part of the station is very bleak and works seem to have stalled sometime back.

The new escalators are all well and good, but I'm still astonished how it takes 9 minutes from the DLR to the Northern line. They're literally on top of each other! It's the only interchange I tolerate at Bank and I know it should not take that long to travel between effectively two flights of stairs. Somehow this feels like a massive extrapolation by the PR team rather than an honest mistake.

I guess they are also calculating the train you 'may' have missed when interchanging as well as the waiting time for the next train.

Whilst they are on top of each you have to remember if there were diversions in place (which happened extremely frequently at Bank pre-pandemic) you would be taking much more indirect routes. I have had times where interchanging from Central to Northern Line took upwards of 5 mins, as staff had to hold people back because the platforms simply couldn’t clear fast enough.

Notably though the DLR to Northern route was the one pax couldn't be diverted around, there were both up and down staircases and as they were stairs there was no way to indicate their direction of use. I am assuming the 9min interchange is the one where if you're at the front of the DLR the signposted way is to go up to the concourse just above the Northern line before walking around and coming back down onto the Northern, which would involve mixing with pax from the Central Line.

Even then it doesn’t take 9 min. I used bank every day for 5 years (mostly dlr - exit but also dlr - northern) and 9 min is hogwash. One can reach the district in that time!
