We all know that the Mercedes Benz Citaro's (a.k.a Bendy buses) were withdrawn rather early than expected because of many problems bus was presenting. After reading about the Pro's and Con's about the NB4L I could actually see them being withdrawn after the Mayoral election in May replaced with electric or hybrid buses.
The new front boarding won't work 100% if you ask me and TFL should now be aware not to order a vehicle like NB4L!

I wish they where removed out of Central London and into the suburbs if it is true that they run in diesel mode and not hybrid mode.

I believe the diesel mode is a backup operation in case there's an issue with the electric motor or batteries. In practice it's not supposed to be driven that way on a permanent basis.

Personally I wouldn't want all of them to be withdrawn, just more 'conventional' buses replacing some of them in Central London with some LTs remaining for a more balanced variety as there are simply too many of them concentrated in one area.

Personally I wouldn't want all of them to be withdrawn, just more 'conventional' buses replacing some of them in Central London with some LTs remaining for a more balanced variety. Perhaps the reduction of fare evasion could prove more effective in such busical chairs, eg swapping allocations between the 159 and the 207 (similar pvrs)...the latter introduced to front boarding LT operation from day one on a route where punters are still accustomed to such boarding procedures. The 159 meanwhile would certainly gain a stronger stance in its reversion to front door boarding. In saying all the above some would simply perceive the swaps as transferring the revenue problem from one route to another.

Totally agree Can't see any leaving in next 4-6 years (unless serious accident damage) But can see some moving to suburban routes (if current routes convert to electric) Can also see about 100-150 finishing their days on school routes as paid for, even though layout not ideal, with this part time use may survive into early 2030s

The NB4L on the other hand probably has a very low resale value for TfL due to the fact they are unique vehicles and no-one else in the world wanted them. I could see them being useful for city tour buses with 3 door boarding, dual staircase etc, but maintenance would be costly (training of drivers, engineers, parts etc). All that was needed to replace bendies was a bulk order of Geminis and E400s. It was that simple. I hope BoJo has learned lessons from his profligate time as mayor of London.

The fact he was re-elected as mayor suggests not everyone shares your opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if they do indeed eventually end up on sightseeing work.

I've finally with success received a response to my FOI from TFL: it was about New Routemaster, I'd like to share with you:
There is 'no' plans to withdraw the New Routemaster vehicles - all routes that currently operate with them will continue with route 19 converting.
This must mean that the candidates for electric vehicles will be the routes which don't operate with New Routemaster vehicles currently.
The project has been completed at 1,000 vehicles and will not be extended (as most know).
This isn't really what I wanted to hear 😰
