Newhaven Marine, in the days before Eurostar, as was seamless as it was possible to get when travelling by rail and sea from London to Paris. A direct train from Victoria would deposit you right next to the ferry terminal for your sailing to Dieppe.
But in the 1980s the ferry terminal was relocated closer to Newhaven Town. Services to Newhaven Marine continued until 2006 when they were suspended as the station was deemed 'unsafe'.
However Newhaven Marine has remained an operational station, and technically Southern Railway has been obliged to provide a service once a day. This responsibility has been discharged by offering upon request a free replacement taxi service to Newhaven Harbour at 18.52 to connect with the 19.03 train towards Lewes. The two stations are 200 yards, or 3 minutes walk, apart. It is not known if anyone has actually taken up this offer, although apparently someone did try to do so for a Radio 4 programme in 2011.
In January this year closure of Newhaven Marine went out to formal consultation. The consultation closes at 23.45 on Sunday 19th April. It is possible an objection could yet be made, but it is unlikely that anyone could prove that the closure of the station would cause "hardship"!

Maybe someone from a taxi company might register an objection.
