Ireland's National Transport Authority has taken delivery of the first of a batch of 100 ADL Enviro400ER plug-in hybrids. These have the same extended-range technology as the ADL Enviro400ER hybrids being introduced in Brighton & Hove, but the Irish vehicles have the City bodywork rather than MMC. 74 of the vehicles are destined for service in Dublin and 26 will be allocated to Galway. A further order for 180 will be delivered later in 2021. Source: Focus Transport blog www.focustransport.org/2020/12/first-adl-enviro400er-plug-in-hybrids.html

The total may rise to 600! The E400ER is not built on BYD chassis. BYD chassis are only limited for ADL, and there has been no confirmed information on an increase recently (as far as I know).

Yes, there are two confirmed orders, one for 100 which has just commenced delivery and a follow-on order for another 80 180 to arrive later next year. There is also a "framework agreement" to take up to 420 320 more over the next five years. These are ADL hybrids and not fully electric so availability of BYD chassis is not an issue.

Saw 4 of these last weekend being driven down the A1 around Newry...long slow drive to Dublin from Larne at 65kph (41mph).

A quick question regarding these, I can't believe I've read the answer before. Does anyone know how exactly the buses achieve the battery required for the extended range? They don't seem to charge at any point whether it be on stand or at the depot and standard Hybrids don't seem to collect enough electricity to move in electric mode for anything more than a few meters.

It would be a combination of the onboard diesel generator and regenerative braking, plus a physical charging station for the plug-in version. I haven't been on any myself but I'd assume the diesel generator runs for longer outside geofenced areas to keep the batteries topped up so they can cover a greater distance on full electric mode.
