The Camden Highline is a community project which aims to create a green walkway alongside part of the Overground line in Camden. Starting at Camden Gardens, the route would take over redundant rail infrastructure running behind the eastbound platforms at Camden Road and heading east along the railway route as far as York Way. There would be access points at Camden Gardens, Camden Road (using a redundant station entrance round the corner in Royal College Street), Camley Street and York Way. It would also be possible to have an entrance directly from the adjacent Overground platform. The walkway would be an attractive alternative to the canal towpath which can become very busy on fine weekends. Planting would be designed to encourage wildlife. The proposal takes its inspiration from the New York Highline and "La Promenade Plantée" in Paris both of which have turned redundant railway routes into linear parks. www.camdenhighline.com/

The team that designed the New York Highline have won the design competition for the Camden Highline. James Corner Field Operations will work with Kentish Town-based firm vPPR Architects on the project.
The Camden Highline is three-quarters of a mile long, which is about half the length of the New York version.
