Scotland has changed tack for supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles in Scotland. Not only does the ScotZEB2 major on small and medium-size enterprises (SME), but it incorporates coaches as well as buses. There are interesting ideas about establishing a network of rural opportunity chargers, a move that has been described as "truly transformational" for instance at hotels and coach parks at visitor attractions. Transport Scotland is said to be "keen" to see the presentation of a business case for rural chargers at strategic locations, such as country hotels and coach parks at popular tourist destinations. Provision of opportunity chargers at Gretna and Tebay Service Stations would also open up a chunk of the Northern England visitor market to Scottish-based electric coaches. www.route-one.net/features/scotzeb2-pivotal-moment-for-sme-zero-emission-shift/

The Scottish Citylink network will see its first zero-emission coach from 29th March. A battery-electric Yutong TCe12 will be operated by contractor Hairy Haggis Coaches (I'm not making that up, honest!) on a route between Glasgow and Troon. The route connects with the ferry to Brodick (Isle of Arran) and also serves Troon town centre. Up to four return journeys operate daily but not all will be operated by the electric coach. The vehicle will be charged at First Glasgow's Caledonia Depot, an example of its provision of such services to third parties. www.route-one.net/news/scottish-citylink-to-start-troon-service-using-yutong-electric-coach/
