I think I mentioned this before, on a thread about the expansion of the Paris Metro, but do not confuse a Paris, or indeed many French city ‘banlieue’ with suburbs in the UK or other European countries. There are deep seated and frankly disgraceful inequalities and poverty in them which is awful, and means this sort of simmering tension is never all that far from boiling over. The poor residents of the banlieues deserve better. A lot better.
