Arriva Rail London secures contract extension with TfL for London Overground
We are delighted to share that Arriva Rail London has secured a contract extension of up to two-years as the delivery partner for the London Overground concession which is operated with Transport for London.
This is great news for our business because TfL is one of our biggest and most important clients. It’s also great news for our 1,500 ARL colleagues who see themselves as part of the London community and take pride in serving the Capital, which they have done since November 2016 serving the 430,000 passengers who use ARL’s services daily.
David Brown, MD of UK Trains, said: “I want to congratulate Paul Hutchings and everyone at Arriva Rail London on this great news. We are incredibly proud of our performance record in London and of our relationship with TfL. We play a significant role in London life, connecting communities and being part of one of the most mature, sophisticated and inter-connected transport networks in the world. With this contract extension we can continue to work in close partnership and deliver innovative and cost-efficient solutions to keep the capital city moving”.
Paul Hutchings, MD for ARL, said: “I’m sure I speak for the entire ARL family in saying how thrilled we are to operate the London Overground for another two years. Approaching the end of the original contract gave us a chance to reflect on our colleagues’ industry-leading achievements over the past six and a half years, from the launch of the Night Overground in 2017 to opening Barking Riverside station in 2022. I have no doubt that the team will continue to excel and build even further upon the legacy we have already created for the London Overground.”
This contract is recognition of the fantastic job that ARL colleagues have done over the last six and a half years, and is in line with UK Trains strategy of working in close partnership with our client bodies to deliver continued great service for our customers.
Through ARL, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry and Grand Central, we run services under all operating models in use in the UK, meaning we are uniquely positioned to demonstrate our delivery experience to stakeholders and clients.
The new contract comes into effect in May 2024 and will see ARL building on its track record of maintaining some of the highest levels of performance in the country as TfL’s delivery partner, while increasing its passenger numbers. London Overground was one of the first networks to restore services to 100% following Covid. It has also received the lowest level of customer complaints of any train operating company over the past two years.
