Anyone else noticed an increase in etching on back/upper deck windows? Some buses are going around looking like how most buses did in the early 00s with all the windows etched.

I thought they put a protective film over the windows to help counteract this stuff now... sad to see it's coming back

Not in my area but then they've always preferred to shoot and stab each other rather than etch. You do get spates of graffiti pen and even spray can markings on buses in my area though

I haven't noticed any increase in etching but surely it shouldn't be too difficult to identify those responsible on CCTV?

Police can't even identify the rising number of car thefts and tool thefts not enough police and underfunded, I've always noticed or did when I was younger around 2003 that this seemed to happen more on outer suburban routes more than inner London routes used to annoy me that the 165 in Romford had nice new Caetano Darts back in the day that were always etched and graffitied on the back seats but we in East London had "old" Marshall darts on the D6 .

I think I can explain what happened with that which involved a number of routes. So in early 2001 the 257 got those Marshall Darts but then capacity issues arose and so they were given the plaxton tridents that were originally for the 123 in late 2001, as a result of that the Marshall darts then transferred onto the 165 (demoting them to single deck and diverting them in Hornchurch to serve Gidea Park drill) and then the 364 came into the scene in the summer of 2002 but then in 2003 when the Caetano Nimbus came for the 364 the former S2 route was retained by first and they were originally going to get the second batch of the Caetano Nimbus but then the high ups in first decided to keep the nimbus' in Dagenham/Rainham and send the former 257 Marshall darts to Hackney for the S2 which was why when the Nimbus later came to LI you saw the graffiti.

If challenged the answer is "I'm taking it to Halfords to get a replacement".

If you think it’s bad in London, wasn’t half as bad as it is on the buses in Athens, which I just came back from off holiday 😂 You got loads of late 1990’s Mercedes buses (O405’s I think? Predating Citaro’s!!) still running round and have probably had the same etched windows since the things were new!! You can barely see out of most windows it’s so bad 😂 you even see a lot of graffiti tags outside the buses on the bodywork! The prize of the worst bus I travelled on most recently in Athens probably had to go to a 2004 Irisbus Agora S, was trying to perch on the edge of the seat without any part of me touching any other surfaces, as the sheer filth of the whole thing was so appalling. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in the whole 19 years it’s been in service, you could barely tell the actual colour of all the seat backs from being so covered in various bits of faded graffiti from over the years EDIT: just found a picture of the actual bus here, NOT MINE leoforeia.gr/photos/displayimage.php?pid=19046 , looks like quite a modern bus tbf but it was an absolute wreck

If challenged the answer is "I'm taking it to Halfords to get a replacement". Actually a lot of them is done by a stone, old pen with no ink or a knife. Some of them are identified on CCTV. Trouble is, that unless it is freshly reported it is hard for it get done with those responsible for CCTV on buses then having to go through hours of footage to get something which takes time even in fast frame. Unless it is known of the exact occurrence it is never ending task. I have noticed on train stations there is a hell of a lot of graffiti paint coming back again, something not seen since early 2000's and the 1980's

But of course that could just be train operators are slower to clean the trains now than they used to be
