This is in preparation for them to divert to London Bridge while they have the East London Line closed on Easter Sunday Do they usually divert to London Bridge? TfL stated before that drivers need to be trained on the line before they can operate a service between London Bridge and Crystal Palace.

Easter will be the first time London Overground will be diverting there, hence why the training runs are in place.

Whether or not GTR respond to it is down to our marvellous Department for Transport who clearly have every clue what they're doing to improve train services.....

In fairness it's not that simple. Southern have a massive hole of 65 units due to the scrappings of the Class 455s and 313s

They pretty much provided all the LB to Beckenham Junction/East Croydon stoppers aswell as a large amount of the Victoria to Sutton/Epsom Downs via Norbury services. At the time I thought that seemed a lot of trains to replace with nothing new to replace them.

Their lease for the 455 was expiring, COVID stagnated passenger numbers especially hard in SE London, the 377s had just started refurbishment, and the trains were getting a bit too old anyway.

At the time I thought that seemed a lot of trains to replace with nothing new to replace them. They were coming to the end of their lease on 31 March and I believe Eversholt wouldn't provide an extension to the current lease and GTR didn't want to enter into a new lease. Hence they adjusted the timetables they ran from 29 April with short-formed services until then.

Covid stagnated numbers everywhere yet a number of TOC’s didn’t withdraw so many trains like Southern did and numbers have clearly returned judging by the number of complaints I’ve seen online about Southern. The lease expiring is the real reason they went, has nothing to do with passenger numbers

There's lots they theoretically COULD have done, ie getting 377/5s from Southeastern but all ideas of getting new rolling stock have been rejected (aside from 377163 and 164 returning back)
