It allows a common fleet with E11, and thus one less bus, so must be cost saving Doesn’t really help with the proposed busier, longer E10, but maybe that has been dropped If there is a subsequent change and bigger buses needed, not sure what would happen to 9m ones, K1 is a possibility in summer 2000 (but only if Abellio retain it). But very few routes needing 10 short buses. But E5 already uses 0.9m Enviro 200s. The E11 could share with the E5. I am not happy with this news. But E5 already uses 0.9m Enviro 200s. If 10.9m DLEs can go on the 440 then why has RATP ordered 10.5m Enviro 200 MMCs? What restriction prevents 10.9m DLEs on the 272?

Today’s announcement on the 3 new LEBZs included update on TfL buses TfL is only buying zero emission or hybrid double deck buses, as well as retrofitting older buses to reduce NOx emissions by up to 90%. In addition, all new single deck buses will be zero emission from 2020. The entire fleet of around 9,000 buses will be zero emission by 2037 at the latest Obviously the wording is poor quality as TfL doesn’t buy buses normally, but I assume this means allows Operators to buy As written suggests an Operator can no longer obtain a diesel decker for a new TfL contract, which will make it much tougher for companies like Sullivan’s that often acquired diesel deckers for school routes until recently TfL Press Release Link Wonder which route will get the last non zero emission single decks, as appears all new single decks Londonwide will be zero emission from next year.

This could prove costly thou for operators as 1 electric buses must cost mroe so the option of savings by using single deck buses will be reduced and 2 some garages only have one or two SD routes now. In 2020 or 2022 the 80 will need atleast a part allocation of new buses as it uses a mix of 09reg, 61 reg and 5 or 6 65 reg. That would mean A having to install charging points for maybe 9 or 10 buses with only potentially winning the 413 back to bring another SD route into the garage.

I also wonder if more two year extensions and existing bus contracts will occur on the routes that already have euro6 single deckers, baring the ones that enter the ULEZ.

I wonder when exactly the requirement for zero-emission SDs kicks in. I was assuming that it would apply from the start of the new year, but they might have left the door open for it to be implemented at some arbitrary date later in 2020 - for example it might coincide with the tightening of LEZ standards on 26 October 2020, which would allow plenty of cheap diesel SDs to be bought during most of 2020.
I wouldn't be surprised if second-hand diesel DDs are still allowed. TfL have always worded their press releases in terms of new buses but kept quiet about second-hand ones. It would surely be unfair on bidders if operator A is allowed to bid using existing diesel vehicles that are already in their fleet, but operator B is banned from offering identical vehicles acquired second-hand. Any restriction on using existing diesel buses would have to be applied to all bidders, regardless of where the buses come from.

I wonder if the wrong size E200s bought for the 393 would be better suited to the 268 rather than send the buses back or leave them languishing in storage? Just a thought
