Interesting article. As well as the current 20 vehicles for Fastway services which have been part-funded by Gatwick Airport, Surrey County Council is to contribute towards a further 34 vehicles which will enter service over the next 18 months. Go-Ahead also clearly has one eye on the future with its refueling facility, exploiting the potential for future hydrogen-powered coaches and airport ancillary vehicles.

www.route-one.net/features/hydrogen-the-only-option-for-metrobus-fastway-ze/Hydrogen fuel cell-electric remains the most realistic zero-emission technology for usage cases requiring very high mileage and utilisation capabilities. That is the verdict from the Go-Ahead Group after its Metrobus subsidiary launched 20 Wrightbus GB Kite Hydroliner single-deckers on 29 June. They will be used on Fastway services around Crawley and Gatwick Airport. Travel patterns there influence Fastway scheduling, and buses can be called upon to work 22-hour duties before the opportunity arises to replenish their onboard energy storage.

Also, it means I better get riding these routes sooner rather than later

Does anyone know if 6124 has had a engine replacement. I know it's had quite a few breakdowns over past few months and I was on it yesterday and it sounded very different.

This will by accident mean we shall have 2 Hydrogen bus operations in London, the other being route 7 (plus route 245 journeys).

Seems as though Southdown buses are now starting to have their logos removed ahead of this weekend’s merger into Metrobus as I’ve just seen 6986 in Selsdon devoid of any Southdown logos.

VE1-VE3 have joined the Metrobus fleet from Go-Ahead London and will be numbered 6950-6952. They are in the fleet temporarily so will retain their TfL livery.

Those poor Metrobus passengers, let’s hope they don’t have to go far because their arses will fall asleep on the rock hard seats or up any hills because the VE will not make it 😂
