I just travelled from Richmond to Clapham J - it’s a shame that there are not on platform readers for touching out for oyster - ridiculous! I have a staff pass for Go-Ahead so need to touch the Oyster card out to continue my journey south but had to run all the way to the ticket gates. At least have a ‘touch out’ reader in the subway or on the platform - but I imagine it would be too much for Joe Public to handle!

There is one hidden on Platform 17, at the bottom of the stairs from the footbridge. In which case you might as well just use the barriers as it means using less stairs (unless your train happens to depart from P17 of course).

It’s an annoying state of affairs that won’t be changing any time soon, despite our efforts to inform the powers that be (Cubic/TfL/NR).
Ideally there should be at the following locations: — between P3/4 and P5/6 (bridge and subway stairs), — P7 (by the lift), — P9/10 (next to the waiting room), — P11/12 (behind coffee shop), — P13/14 (also next to their waiting room), — between P15/16 and P17 (bridge and subway stairs). Naturally TfL have only provided readers for their own services (LO occasionally uses P17, and the subway readers are by an emergency exit)

Naturally TfL have only provided readers for their own services (LO occasionally uses P17, and the subway readers are by an emergency exit) I thought the problem in the past was that South West Trains were vehemently opposed to a plethora of both pink or yellow validators within the paid area. They said that people would travel from Portsmouth / Woking / wherever and then get off at C Junc and just touch in for a Z12 fare into Waterloo. I wonder if South Western Railway have a different view and isn't Clapham Junction now Network Rail managed? They should be relatively agnostic on the issue provided validators didn't cause a congestion hazard. The situation at Clapham Junction with fare setting and pink validators is ridiculous. I could rant for hours about this but won't.

Do loop services via Kingston & Richmond generally use 455s or 707s?
And do Shepperton services only use 455s?

Sorry should have been more specific, not coupled together, either 455+455+456 or 707+707 Shepperton (via Kingston) service mainly 455+455+456, services via Richmond see more of a mix In peak hours some services seem to swap types Some evening services are 4, 5 or 6 cars, not 10 car trains. Until about 15 years ago most Sunday services were single 4 car units

For the benefit of those not on RailUK, there is a revised SWR livery without the pinstripes. Maybe it’ll speed up repaints and save on vinyls? *shrugs*

I don’t think anything is being repainted in a hurry anyway, since the 442’s still haven’t began service trips. So speeding things up definitely not sure. I still don’t like the dull grey. The bit of yellow actually makes a difference. P.s next time I come through Clapham I expect a wave...

Seems 442 testing is picking up quite nicely with them travelling between Bournemouth Depot and Portsmouth Harbour. You may see a few in service by the end of the year at this rate

Apparently Phil and Celia’s automated announcements at SWR stations are set to be replaced by ATOS Anne and Rodger, I wonder if conversion will start soon if so?

I think Waterloo occasionally has a different voice which is automated but not the usual voice. (Not the manual station announcement team as I recognise them) The CIS at Chiswick now advertised trains as ARRIVED when they are within station limits. This never used to happen before. It just said the departure time.

Does this on GA and TFL rail at most stations also now tells you at Stratford when your train has departed Liverpool Street or passed Maryland coming from the opposite direction .

Apparently Phil and Celia’s automated announcements at SWR stations are set to be replaced by ATOS Anne and Rodger, I wonder if conversion will start soon if so? Not surprised in all honesty, especially after GTR got rid of all their Phil and Celia announcements and replaced them with ATOS Anne and Matt Streeton. It is sad to see them being phased out though as I grew up hearing Celia and Phil's vices whenever I was waiting for a train. Meanwhile up north its all ATOS Anne. Does any station on the SWR network already have ATOS Anne announcements? I know Reading does and I believe Epsom does too after 725DYE told me.
