Strike update: RMT & SWR management are to meet tomorrow (12/6) afternoon for some tea and biscuits. Here’s hoping something good finally comes out of it. Was that tge unit that ran 1B88 on Monday? Are the 442's still running or was that one on 1B88 a one off? Yes, after 1B88 (or 9B88 as it appears) it stays in Clapham Yard between peaks, then returns to Waterloo for the Poole. This may change as more units re-enter traffic.

2410 at Clapham Yard. Luckily I probably won’t ever be working those things. Was that tge unit that ran 1B88 on Monday? Are the 442's still running or was that one on 1B88 a one off? surprised how little response these trains are getting. Thought there would be a lot more on twitter and whatnot.

I was the only one photographing it on Monday morning at CLJ! if it was an London Overground train I'm sure the reaction would be different. *runs* away from the forum for a bit. *I understand how important 710s are for the Goblin users I was just surprised how much coverage they got elsewhere compared to any other train that enters service.

The 710s have got a lot of commentary largely because of their tortured introduction. That created endless speculation and comment about what was going on. They are also a new design and a London specific train (at this point in time). It's not a surprise to me that they've attracted a bit more interest than the second rebirth of class 442s which presently only run a peak hour return working. I completely understand that some people are really pleased to see them back but it remains to be seen how effective and reliable they are in regular main line service. Looking at Railforms UK most of the rolling stock comments are about new types coming into service or the slow demise of things like Pacers as they end their operating lives. No great surprise there - enthusiasts are nearly always intrigued by the new and what's about to disappear. No one much cares when things are slogging back and forth in normal service as that's "boring".

Not for everyone If it was boring,I wouldn't have spent 30 minutes at CLJ waiting for it to come through lol The first or last run of something is not in the "boring" category. I was simply saying that some enthusiasts don't necessarily see the value of regular day to day photos of normal service. It's only years later when things change that those shots gain value because they captured the "ordinary" which has since disappeared. The equivalent would be taking photos of SWR Class 455s - today's workhorses on the inner suburban routes but will be gone at some point.

Have to disagree with you calling the 442 re-entering service as "boring". It was no doubt a brave move by SWR to get these trains again on the Portsmouth Main Line after all those years away surely for enthusiasts that is exciting? Also remember the class holds the world record attempt for being the fastest third rail train so in that respect it would gain more attention than any other train entering service. I have to admit like you I'm not holding up much hope on them lasting a long time but let's just wait and see about that.

Their software is completely new, while that used on the 345 is a version of the software used on the Electrostars. The 710s also have many new features like the LCD screens along their top sides. The software on the 710s will also form the base of what's used on the future Aventra models. The 442s end of the day are trains that have already been used elsewhere, they've had their "moment" many years ago.

I look forward to trying the 710s as well as the 442 soon 😃

Royal Ascot will be fine, it’s just us poor sods trying to get to work in the SWR area that will have to replan our journeys. 😡 It is about time collective heads are bashed together and this dispute resolved. SWR as a train company is the worst I’ve ever come across.
