A bit shocking, what a waste of money. These two were overtaken by events. Just a year after they were licensed, Metroline started putting into service the first of a new generation of viable fully battery-electric double deckers that could achieve a full day in service on a single battery charge. Battery technology has come on in leaps and bounds in the past decade and ADL now produces a double-decker that can achieve over 600km on a full charge. Opportunity charging has become redundant almost before it was able to get off the ground. Just very sad to see unique buses again in London axed. We had it with the initial RV1 fuel cell Citaro's. Then recently the Wright version Citaros from the RV1. Just a massive waste of money doing this.

Is one WVL or WVN staying at NP for the 657 or are they all being replaced by MHV?

Unless I have missed something, are these the first 24-registered buses to operate on a TfL route? Today had the first 3: Ee244: 06:43 3048: 08:25 Ee245: 08:56

Been discussed on the E100EV/E400EV thread but you'll be pleased to know that the E400EV integral's interior is virtually indistinguishable from a classic diesel or hybrid E400/MMC! I think the main difference is it has regular seats at the back downstairs (over the wheelarches) like the G3/Streetdeck It’s also low floor to the very back iirc. No more climbing Everest to get to the back and resulting low headroom like on the BYDs.

The contract for the 358 is for electric buses. Route tests showed that the route is too long for currently available single deck electric vehicles. Notably this was when the route had its tender result announced in 2019, since then the 111 which has a similar length has been started up with electric buses and ADL now have a vehicle that can do almost 300 miles. The 358 will happen simply because far too much work has now gone into this, however I think opportunity charging isn't going to be something that London buses need. It might be useful in the provinces but probably not London. I think TfL also just got the short end of the stick and got unlucky with the issues of installing chargers especially at Orpington. Had they tried at bus stations they owned with less constraints the buses would likely be running already. But yes that does seem to be an opportunity if everyone is on the same compatible pantograph technology for op charging. Just install a few at each town’s bus station out in the provinces and it could be viable!
