I gather that this year on NYE no additional/extra bus services will operate. Please advise further as I cannot track confirmation online. TfL stated in a tweet to someone that they will publish the details when they are confirmed

I would really be delighted if the 25 was reinstated to serve Oxford Circus or even Holborn would do!
My job involves travelling between locations to meet with clients, therefore when I'm at Stratford and have extra time for the next client, I'd take the 25 to Oxford Circus to kill time!
The terminus City Thameslink is just so inconvenient - who on earth would like to change twice to reach Oxford Circus? If the 25 terminated at Holborn we could simply take the 55 or 98 to continue! Many others and my self cannot tolerate these route withdrawals/shortening anymore.
Any chance we could take action (although unlikely to get a successful result) - Trains/Underground are expensive and bear in mind that there are many low earning workers. The Central line is becoming over populated and unreliable, I couldn't board 3 trains today.

I don't mean to sound harsh but the 25 is done and dusted it's not unlikely to ever return to Oxford Circus it's been running it it's current form for a year now. I never wanted the route cut but sometimes just have to accept it. If anything in time the 25 could be cut back further!

If you want to take action, lobby the government to reinstate (at least partially) the operating subsidy that TfL lost a few years ago. It's forced TfL to make harsh decisions such as cutting bus routes in order to maximise efficiency and remain afloat. We must remember that TfL is a government owned organisation and it would never be in their interests to cut bus routes and deliberately inconvenience customers, let alone meddling with a network of services that despite it's flaws continues to work so well.

There's a lot more to TfL's financial problems than that. You are right that the lack of operating subsidy is a large part of the problem, but an equally large part is the fares freeze which has meant year on year reduced income in real terms.
Add to that the toxic mix of reduced patronage, arguably partly self-inflicted by having less attractive bus services along with no action to do what is needed to reverse matters and you have a recipe for financial disaster. Crossrail delayed opening and increased costs has only made matters worse. All this and more has contributed to the cuts to help reduce the bus subsidy.
Is there an alternative? Sure, but it needs some money and political will and both are currently lacking.

As well as thee fare freeze we have the hopper, both of which are taking a huge chunk out of the bus budget. Things we all love to benefit from but there are consequences.

It's a combination of the government & Khan who implemented a fares freeze & hopper fare despite knowing that Boris & the government of the time had untaken the removal of the subsidy. They are all as culpable as each other.

Perils of bus cuts
Had to let go of 3 55’s, 2 243s before I could board a bus with a pram (these 5 buses had 2 prams each already!). This was to go from Theobalds road to Old street. Also saw 2 19s and 3 38s in the same time with buggies occupying both slots (there were 2 38s which had slots free but I wasn’t going in that direction).

londonbusroutes.net has put out information which suggests the opposite, quote: >>> Most routes operate a Saturday night/Sunday morning service. A few routes are further enhanced. All routes that normally run overnight at weekends only will operate. There will be an additional service on some routes to connect with suburban train services. <<< www.londonbusroutes.net/christmas.htm

Best suited for this thread as most of us already are aware but for those who are not:
Jamaica Road and Tooley Street (London Bridge - Rotherhithe Tunnel Roundabout) is now a single lane in both directions which is a complete hassle. I have sympathy for the commuters which are stuck without a choice to commute via buses. I gather that the plan is to expand to Cutty Sark and make Evelyn Street single lane also!
