I didn't realise that also works on Scanias. I always thought it was a Volvo loophole but it appears that it's more on the actual ZF. EDIT: just as I posted this I just remembered you doing the same trick on the E40Ds Yes definitely works with ZF Ecomat E400s! Also works with every ZF B7TL I've driven - V/W plate VA/VP, Y plate PVL, 03 plate VP/VLW, 55 plate VWs and 06 plate WVLs! And the Scania N94s - Euro 3 SP/SLE and Omnitowns. The likes of 610 and SP1 also had a working kickdown and speed range selectors so little point in tapping the throttle. Plus the N230UDs - 5 and 6 speed Omnicities with both the short and long gear ratio set up, both Euro 4 and Euro 5. Finally also worked with the MAN 14.240s from the 246, but the revvo needle would shoot up to 2300rpm so quickly there was no point. It also works with Euro 5 Mercedes Citaros. It doesn't work with any ZF Ecolife buses I've had but wonder if it would with the MECs. A pity but it doesn't work on the Ecolife variants as it would have been interesting to hear a B9TL thrashed in the lower gears.

I actually loathe the new spider maps. The old ones were so handy for planning my journeys and adventures. Why wouldn't you show the whole route on the map? So annoying.

Its even worse on some of the new spider maps which have no sense of geography to them. For example, the Ilford spider maps has lines coming out of a square in the centre in all directions, and ridiculously, some locations appear on opposite sides of the map despite being the same place, they are not useful friendly and are terrible. Don't even get me started on how ugly those large clunky boxes where each route goes off the map look.

Me too, the originals were the best. I also don’t understand why these maps have dots which don’t correspond to anything. Thank goodness for Mike Harris’ bus map! 👍🏽

I honestly think that TfL should just produce quadrant maps, and at each stop, there is a section of that quadrant map showing a suitable distance of where each routes (which would be coloured in go) whilst routes which don’t serve the stop aren’t coloured in.

There's one of these at the old (now unused) 'Market Street' stop in Dartford. It's TFL produced and looks to be from around the late 90s/early 00s. These would be so handy to have at bus stops in the age of the hopper fair.

Trust me, there is no way to get a B9TL to do anything interesting other than by setting traction control off but even then it will only hold the current gear it’s in for a short amount of time

Blackwall tunnel was interesting today, to say the least. After getting on my 115 at Aldgate Bus station I realised the driver was going on a set down only basis stopping only at Watney Market and Stepney Methodist Church. Once we got to SMC our driver, with permission from the controller, diverted via Limehouse Link Tunnel,Lower Lea Crossing and Silvertown Way. Things must have really been bad as when I was on Commercial road, I saw a passenger carrying 108 heading towards the city.

I thought such diversions were out of favour nowadays, but I suppose drivers hours regs means something has to be done to shift buses if drivers are approaching their limits or the end of their shift.

In this case, everyone but 2 people were heading for places before canning town.

Personally, I've travelled on a 108 via Tower Bridge, but it was an awfully long time ago!

In addition the 115 has been on diversion for a few weeks now towards Canning Town via the Lower Lea Crossing.
