1337 (one of the ex-Tower Transit E200s) has been refurbished with HCT Group logos and yellow poles. (Not my photo) They were from First (ex-95) then were at Metroline (ex-95) and not Tower Transit

It looks smart though I wouldn't use the word incredible for dull 100% red myself but just my thoughts

At I’m glad someone’s actually gone to the effort of a proper refurbishment (like Abellio did when they inherited buses with a different interior) rather than a slapdash refurb just slapping on their maquette with a different interior making the bus look ridiculous and tacky (ahem Arriva and Metroline)

Although I don’t think he’s referring to non-London buses, but more referring to when operators were allowed flourishes of their own colours as accents. Eg when Metroline had their blue skirts and GAL with their grey and yellow. But I definitely prefer 100% red although I did really like First’s flourishesof yellow and white stripes and the yellow on the front destination display. Looks really nostalgic when I see it now NOT my photo LK04HYX

Also do not like the black/grey headlight surrounds on the unrefurbished Metroline and GAL and RATP E400s, I just do not think the black surrounds suit the E400s/E200s but does on MMCs.

Personally find it incredibly dull and it fades very easily making vehicles look worse. Whilst I prefer the TfL network for it's ease of access and the frequency of the network, I'd suggest using non London buses before knocking them because there are elements of non London buses that are not only interesting but could be quite useful for London as well.

I wouldn't say I do not like something unless I have used it. I hate non London buses and have done for a very long time, I've used a variety of non-London buses, I dislike the single door idea in most areas and the different colors used, as EH said, red is simple and looks fresh and clean and some operators are able to keep that for over a few years whilst others like Arriva in East London are unable to keep buses tidy and presentable. It comes down to how operators keep the buses in regards to the fading of the red in my view.

Totally agree on the Metroline and GAL ones, especially if the bus has gone a long while without a refurb they looked horrendous, the 60-reg unrefurbished WVLs on the 432 are looking terrible now inside and out.

I don't agree with the single door myself but there still are many interesting useful and fascinating things personally about non London buses. I've seen very few 100% red buses still look fresh after a few years regardless of which operator it is and their supposed state of keeping buses in a decent shape - Arriva managed to keep the 55 reg VLA's looking quite decent at the end of their first contract at BN but other than that, have seen numerous examples of non fresh buses regardless of the operator. Ironically, Go-Ahead's grey skirt generally does well in this regard presumably because of the charcoal grey being a dark colour.

The 60 reg WVL's aren't too bad considering they've never seen a paintbrush - have seen many refurbished buses containing a large red section turn pink with Metroline & Go-Ahead in comparison. The charcoal skirts are doing ok as well but what should be noted is skirts will receive more damage due to where they're positioned.
