I was reading on the BBC news site, that the government is planning to scrap the M4 bus lane. Big Mistake. I cannot count how many times ive been on a coach and we have used the Bus Lane and passed stationary traffic. Removing it will not sort that trouble. I would not be surprised if Coaches start using the A4 to enter London as it could have less traffic on it. Instead of Removing it, get rid of the Hard Shoulder and make that into another lane.

Removing the bus lane on the M4 will make the situation WORSE. This bus lane is sadly the most mis informed bit of road in the country, why? Well before the bus lane was installed, you had three lanes of traffic right up until the narrowing down of the M4 where it rises onto the flyover (creating a bottleneck). What the bus lane did was simply move the two lane section back to Junction 3, where many leave the motorway anyway thus removing the bottleneck at the flyover. the third lane however was retained as a "light volume traffic" lane (i.e buses and coaches) instead of simply painting it with hatch markings. Tests have showed the journey time eastbound in peaks with the bus lane is BETTER than before it was installed. So not a hindrance, more a bit of clever thinking. For more info: www.cbrd.co.uk/indepth/m4buslane/I think you will find that the REAL reason for its removal was so that the 'abuse' of it by a minicab company called 'Adison Lee' was starting to cause HMG major embarassment! Several tory MPs in the London area are 'sponsored' by the black cab trade, but also the MD of Addison Lee is also well known to numerous tory MPs too. So, in regard to mnicab use of the bus lane, the government were going to be d*mned if the allowed it, and d*mned if they didn't. Abolition of the lane neatly solves BOTH scenarios, only Joe Public is the loser (again?)! ;D ;D ;D
