So the 33 and 72 get newer buses. I'm guessing they are a bit longer to cope with loadings particularly on the 33.

Suggests the 440 is getting upgraded and I suggest a double deck conversion somewhere. the 440 is not to get a double deck conversion only the 423 and H98 are to get double decked with the DLE's going to routes 33,72,440,N33,N72. And this is confirmed by?

This month's TLB refers to more DE shuffles due involving those allocated to route 72 & 395. Maybe spare VHs will be retained to upgrade single-deck routes such as 423 & H98, and a resulting cascade such as: * routes upgraded from DE to DEL, notably route 72 and possibly others such as route 33 * route 72 losing ex-London Sovereign DEs back to London Sovereign to replace ex-London United DEs on routes 326, 395 and H9/10 * route 440 going DEL, releasing DMEs in addition to those ex-route 272 for the same purpose * as so may SPs have been upgraded to Euro VI these may as well stay until future tenders require their replacement.

I think the point that busdryver is making is that it’s all speculation right now - there’s no confirmation anywhere detailing which routes might convert to DD and which buses will end up displaced.

Nothing has been confirmed - sadly, people are continually mixing up confirmation & rumour. Absolutely - TLB mentions that swaps will happen between 72 and 395. This is likely to be the newer 2011 buses moving to the 395 and older buses ex-H13 2009 ones. Everything else is just rumour at the moment, and I am sure that there are many options being considered, and will depend on what RATP and TFL want to do. Bear in mind, however, that TfL are clear that normally buses on a contract can not get older - so don’t expect things like old 2010 DLEs suddenly converting Route 440 to allow new buses to move...

Is there anything that prevents the 440 from being a double decker route?

Were SCC always going to tender these services , or have they needed to do so because RATP have decided to cease running them ? Will save money anyway. Can’t see them being profitable as commercial ventures.

Surrey’s tenders generally follow the academic year (so September to September for mainstream services, or September to July for school routes, I think for a base of three years although extensions for good performance etc are often awarded). I notice on the route registrations that some one these are listed as ‘Subsidy - In Part’ though, so I guess those ones may be base commercial services that the council support certain elements of, but with the operator now withdrawing the routes, the council have had to tender for full replacements?
