Hardly think its anything to do with 'health and safety madness' (Is that The Sun and Daily Mail's favourite phrase?? lol). Sounds more like a driver just being difficult. Of course, we only have the passenger's side of the story so far. Not sure why there has to be a massive picture of a coffee cup in the article, in case no one knows what one looks like. ;D

2 thoughts here;
The driver did the right thing, if someone slipped on the coffee, the driver would be in the poo poo because he knew about it and the compo claim could be huge. 1 of the reasons that no food or drink shoul be allowed on buses.
The other thought; Driver thinks to himself, 'result, i'll call it in and sit here and do nothing'...........................................

Brighton & Hove (who, like Wilts & Dorset, are under the Go-Ahead group) already operate this policy and I must say, they've some of the cleanest buses around.

Some of the Stagecoach drivers down here in East Kent tell passengers who get on with food/drink to take the rubbish off afterwards (and usually it works). There are always cleaners at Canterbury Bus Station who clean some of the buses while the buses are standing.
Although, you can always tell which buses have just been on a school run!

For London I think a food eating ban should be brought in - got on a 221 as a chap came down the stairs with his box of chicken - I went upstairs and there is a pile of chicken bones left in the centre of the isle towards the rear. This was off peak in the afternoon and there were only 3 other people up there - none of them eating. Disgusting, didnt get the bonnet number but I wonder if the bus companies can look through CCTV and if recognised have the person done for littering THEIR vehicle?
Then it would be very hard to police - I got on a London Overground train at Kensal Rise the other day and a guy was sitting drinking from a bottle.

If they can't get on with booze, then why not food? After the school run, my bus stinks of chicken! It's also a safety hazzard, greasy chicken everywhere.
