hi all 500 buses are set to get wifi in the next to year in south hampshire in £7.4m scheme The Department of Transport has awarded £4.5m towards the scheme after a joint bid by Southampton, Portsmouth and Hampshire councils. At least 141 buses will be refurbished under the scheme, 500 will get display screens showing the next stops and new LED lighting, and a smartphone app giving bus timetable information will be launched later this year. full info here www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9640918.Buses_to_get_wi_fi_in___7_4m_scheme/thanks

Isn't it about time TfL considered this for at least some London buses?...

Don't think wi-fi would suit buses as much. Its not like the working people would actually get out their Mac Books or Dell Laptops and start checking their e-mails while on a bus and certainly not in an urban area. It would just make them an easy target for a bus robbery.

It would just make them an easy target for a bus robbery. Considering many people usually have their phones and smartphones out while on the bus, I don't think they would have a problem getting their laptops out.

Well personally I need the internet where ever I go. I agree that TfL should consider this. I mean we pay £2.20 for a ride so we should get some benefit out that. ;D

I can understand it will be useful for business use though.

What financial incentive is there for TfL to do this though?

I agree with Chris, it's a bad idea especially for London buses on a whole, the reasons are obvious. Better suited for luxury coaches and trains.
