And make sure you don't have your bank card next to your oyster

I got a question...
Whyyyyyyyyy Contactless payment is not available on the RM Heritage routes?
Is it easy for the conductors to bring in a chip and pin readers?

Maybe because the hand-held devices they use haven't/can't be updated?
You don't half ask some stupid questions...

why does it mention "never take a passenger's CPC away from them". Because oyster cards can be withdrawn by a driver/conductor/RPI if they are misused etc. Oysters are issued by TFL and still remain tfl property. Because the Contactless cards are issued by banks and are subject to higher security (they are effectively property of the bank or user), they cannot be withdrawn by drivers/conductors/RPI's. Also, Contactless cards cannot be refunded like oyster cards can, instead the customer gets a refund voucher and has to contact TFL to arrange refund. And not forgetting, for the time being, daily capping is not available on the contactless cards.

As Romfordbuses has said the hand held readers are not capable of upgrading. They are very old technology and for only 10 buses I suspect there is no business case for spending a lot of money to upgrade or replace them at this stage. It remains to be seen if they are replaced when capping is introduced in late 2013. I suspect new hand held readers will be needed for revenue staff then as they will have to be capable of reading ITSO spec smartcards as well. A version of them might be provided for the conductors on the Heritage routes. I am guessing so we will just have to wait and see how things go.

So someone put their wallet up against the reader last night and it came up "charged £1.35" which I'm pretty sure I've never seen before, so I told him I thought it had gone through but he still got his oyster out which had a travelcard on it. I wonder if it's taken money off his credit card?

I wonder if it's taken money off his credit card? Well I'd say it has certainly put a charge on his credit card bill. we'll never know, of course, but I wonder if he will query it. I imagine a few people might be getting shock transactions on credit card and bank accounts.

The part with the oyster cards on the merry go round is interesting. I hope the company have enough money to pay TFL the fare And thank you BBC for promoting my bus
