Hey all
I was wondering If I can get your opinion's on some Compact Digital Cameras that are good for taking pictures and videos.
Over the recent years I've had the Samsung ES71, Canon AA3350 & now the Panasonic DMC-SZ1.
With the Canon AA3350 I can assure you it does take some good pictures but it does have it's good days and bad days. It doesn't do well with bright lighted area's as it gives out alot of purple lines and flares when videoing and when taking pictures it gives out some massive flares.
In 2013 I've now made a change from the AA3350 to the Panasonic DMC-SZ1 and I'm starting to be more concerned about it then any other camera.
To be honest the only thing that is letting me down is the audio, it doesn't seem to be that loud enough then the previous camera. I'll upload some vids that I took with the Panasonic just to get some advice.
Have any off you got any cameras that you'd be willing to criticise, etc.

Its not just the iPhone, the camera quality is also good on the Samsung Galaxy SII (remembering Apple copied the 8mp camera idea from Samsung) and even better on the Galaxy SIII.

I've managed to film only one video on my iPhone 5 as a test - quality was ace. That said, I'm hoping to get a new camera myself - shame Jessops decided to pull out a 'closing down' sign rather than 'sale' one

My current one is a bit incapable of anything but landscape photography. Looking not to spend more than £500-600 if possible.

A general comment about camera advice. In order to give people a chance of giving a decent answer it is really helpful to say what type of photography you like doing - people, objects, stills, action, video, low light etc. The other important factors are camera size and budget. I accept the first post covered most of these bases but there are so many options these days any help in narrowing down options is really helpful.
I tend to look at the What Digital Camera website for reviews and ratings. In terms of a good camera shop I have bought all my Canon kit over several years from Park Cameras who are in Burgess Hill. I've also done a few training courses there. While a bit away from London they do excellent web order and delivery and have resolved any problems with no problems - excellent customer service.

If you want something professional then I'd go for the Canon E0S 600D, I've seen some pictures produced by them and they stand out well. Although you may have nudge up your price budget a tad.

I've had an unexpected bursary windfall from university of £600 so I'm using it as an excuse to get a new camera and get back into landscape/transport photography.

Just to let you know that I have just had an E Mail from Park Cameras showing the 600D + 18-55m lens at £373 (this includes £40 cashback which you claim from Canon). That's much lower than John Lewis are offering and a decent bargain. The Canon 650D with the same lens is £442 after cashback. If you want to buy on line then you'll need a discount code which I'm happy to give you if you want it.

You can't get arrested for filming on public property, You can even film the police to get on there nerves, Not saying it's a good idea but it is within the law to video them on your or public property, There is nothing they can do about it

They also don't have any power to stop you taking photographs or filming on public property. See the MPS website for detail on this - www.met.police.uk/about/photography.htm - if I'm going out to do bus photography I tend to keep a printed copy of this webpage in my bag to show any police officer or security guard that says anything to the contrary.

I actually have the 600D, It is great for pictures but it does have its good and bad day's and can come out with interesting results when you muck about with the settings and when doing night shot's, Video is great and you can shoot in 720P at 60FPS which if slowed down gives a great smooth slow motion video. When shooting at 1080P expect video's like the ones below, The sounds is great but you can hear it clipping. Note the focus on each video, it is not always perfect and this is the main issue I have when videoing, I never seem to be able to set it correctly whereas when I am using my iPhone or iPod touch for example the focus is set correctly as in the videos below The only problem I have with using my iPhone or iPod is holding the camera steady, The video below Explains that
