I sent an e-mail to TfL regarding what routes the extra 78 electric buses will be intended for, I shouldn't have bothered However it's completely missed the point that the same press release says "Transport for London (TfL) has awarded contracts to operators for a further 78 electric double-deck buses" Who's telling the truth here?

I think the fact it's nearly 10 days since it said "routes awarded" was inaccurate as there have been no tender results since and TFL normally release them once they have decided.

That's what I'm saying. They come out when they are ready (understandably) but according to the press release they have already been decided. Makes me think there are not newly awarded routes but routes that have been decided to convert (106/230?).

BYD-ADL are offering new lengths of E200EV 10.9m (replaces 10.8m) and a new 11.6m (which replaces the 12m version) The E200EV also has a 10.2m and a 9.6m version Press release and info

It looks a lot more sleeker. They're also well as offering a new all-electric heating system

Its an interesting option as it is long enough for TfL to deem it 70 capacity, and only 0.7m longer than the 10.9m version which TfL deem 60 capacity If you consider Richmond with its Victorian street layout passed for the 12m Tempos and Citaros, then there might be a number of routes that a 11.6m bus might work (assuming proper route test and gauging is done). Not going to fit everywhere, but some routes could be as little as minor tweak to couple of kerbstones or altering few metres of road marking paint. What will be really attractive whilst tender bidding is if a route with a 14 PVR can be operated as a 12 PVR with same passenger capacity, could be cutting bid costs by upto 14% As an example (using current tender list) next 2 single deck routes 499 and 331 could each be suitable for -1 PVR if the 11.6m fits vs the current 10.9m bus Not sure if cheaper than used diesel buses with 1 extra bus each route, than 6 new electric buses, when costed over 5 years. It is a difficult calculation: got about 40% of the capital cost of 6 new electric buses extra, assuming 12-15 year life (say £1m) but can sell off 7 used buses (saving depends on book value) probably saving 3 drivers (if a bus is used about 110 hours per week), with NI + pension is £100k per year electric bus should save lots of fuel and energy cost over 5 years (no idea how much) electric buses need less maintenance

LOTs TLB confirms 13 for GoAhead SEe 110-122 (route 444) and 5 for Stagecoach (route 323) All shown as 10.8m, but since printing, length has been discontinued and replaced by 10.9m version

Call me cynical but sounds like another error - then again, S, NP & Q do have electric charging facilities and we know the 94 is 100% confirmed so who knows. Have to say that's a big outlay for untried technology - I'd of thought they see how the 43, 94 & 134 go first.
