I believe the first buses to have the new safety trial are the P5/C10s buses not the 100s. The 100s buses do in fact have that artificial noise. Although I'm not sure how useful it will be considering it sounds nothing like a bus or any other road vehicle - people will probably end up thinking it's a busker somewhere in the background I reckon it would be better to use an intermittent noise like the artificial bell noise buses in Paris use to alert pedestrians. It's far more appealing and is actually more plausible. Plus it has more character

The SEes have taken over the 100! Does anyone know if they are making the weird noise they are meant to make so people can hear them yet? I believe the first buses to have the new safety trial are the P5/C10s buses not the 100s. No, it’s definitely the 100 as the first due to the aforementioned BBC article, might still be on iPlayer if you fancy a watch.

Will do, my apologies as well as I was under the impression the P5/C10 were the test subjects for all these new introductions such as newer LED blinds, the sounds etc. Thanks for clarifying.

No worries - I think they are for other things like blinds but the sounds start off on the 100’s vehicles.

I'm sitting on a 100 now and it is definitely making the sound, but not at a standstill as planned, and it seems like the sound is extremely quiet; if I had heavily impaired sight I would not have great confidence in this system to protect me, I must admit.

Apparently those buses will have their ibus radio controls repositioned down to the dashboard

Lots of electric double decks due this year and next. Makes me wonder what the operators will go for. Obviously we know that Go-Ahead, Metroline, RATP have gone for the BYD/ ADL Enviro400 City EV model. It is far by the most successful model of electric double deck bus by number of orders here in London and nationwide. I think the Volvo/MCV model could be a game changer in putting some competition to ADL. Apparently the model is due to go into production in 2021, so maybe will see the unveiling of the model this year at the Bus Expo.
It will be interesting to see what Arriva, Stagecoach and Tower Transit order for their routes due to go electric. For Tower Transit, I think they will go for Optare Metrodecker EV. Stagecoach will probably order BYD/ADL Enviro400 City EV as they have ordered some for their other operations around the UK. Arriva to me will be the most interesting on what they order for route 319. Personally hoping the order the BYD/ADL Enviro400 City EV but I have a feeling they will order the Optare Metrodecker EV considering they have some single deck electric Optare Metrocity EVs in their Arriva London fleet.
On a side note, Abellio will have to get into this electric double deck bus action soon when they get the chance in the tenders arise. That will be an interesting development. For example; I can see route 344 going electric on its next contract.

But never produced a version in DD. If the new company offers it ... no idea.

However in terms of Double Deckers I imagine they were probably waiting for a partnership with Volvo only to be snubbed by them as Volvo have exclusively partnered with MCV, that said with the quality of the buses at Wright and the state of affairs with finances it was no surprise Volvo didn't seem to want to involve themselves in any way. I think Wright have admitted defeat in terms of electrics and seem to be going down the path of Hydrogens instead where they seem to hope to have a niche, although I know an ADL Hydrogen bus is very much around the corner if not ready for market. It could be very poor for Wrightbus in the near future as the events at the end of last year must have put them back a lot in terms of Research and Development as well as having given MCV a greater chance and ADL a field day with bus orders.

When Boris put tariffs on vehicles built outside the UK ... Maybe Volvo will think again #310120
