After a relatively short evaluation period Lothian Buses have placed an order for 25 Volvo B5TLs with Gemini 3 bodywork - including the really odd glazed staircase option that the trial bus has. Linky link link

Themselves? I meant the NB4Ls, with their glazed staircase I know you did but we then get into a debate as to whether it is a Wrights / TfL / Thomas Heatherwick design. I just tried to keep things simple.

I see on Flickr that the Lothian Buses liveried B5TL demonstrator with the glass staircase panelling is now with Go North East as its 9131. Photo link Not my photo.

Off topic bit: Lothian Buses specification of the destination display could work well for TfL buses. Sorry to drag this up again! On topic: That bus looks really smart. In my opinion it's about time someone did something about that large unglazed bit around the staircase. Ok it'll likely increase the overall weight but it lets in that much more light. Anyone know the kerb weight?

Volvo's website only says 'around 11 tonnes'... I like the fact these will be on Voith as Lothian specify it - and the desto's would be perfect for TfL... hopefully they can consider it, rather than this change back to white blinds, taking us back 25 years

I think "relatively short evaluation period" says quite a lot. With what was it evaluated

Was read a article on the b5tl in route one on wednesday night and they seem to be full of praises for the B5TL especially the performance.
I mean Lothian must feel the same to order it only after 2 months of trials. My skepticism was how would a B5TL cope day in day out for a number of years up and down hills fully loaded at 17.5 tonnes with only 677 lb ft torque.
